On April 17 & 18, students will be taking the middle school math placement test. This assessment will take place during the regular math class at Heritage. We will send the completed tests to MRMS and their math team will evaluate the results and will use this data to help determine which math class your child will be placed in for next year. There are three levels of math for 7th grade: Math 7 (grade level), Accelerated Math 7 (one year advanced) and Algebra (two years advanced). The math placement test reviews all of the curriculum that is covered in 6th grade. Should your child do exceptionally well on the test, they will be invited to test for the Algebra class. The middle school will send all communications to these families.

In addition, students will also be participating in the end-of-year PARCC testing. If you opted your child out of this assessment, you already completed that online, as I sent emails about this option earlier. I do believe that the decision to test or opt-out is a personal one that families should make together but I also feel that the PARCC test provides us with some important information regarding your child's current level of understanding and it also helps me make educational changes for next year based on trends and overall results. In addition, it also allows students to experience a test-taking situation where they learn how to manage their time. These skills are crucial in high school when they will take the practice SAT and the official SAT test for college admittance. Whatever decision you and your family have made, you have my support. :)

Testing will take place in the afternoon (1:00-3:00). We appreciate you not scheduling appointments during this time. Students who are opting out will either be in The Studio with Miss Wheeler or in the Library. They will be completing work or working on learning goals.

Please be sure that students have their headphones at school.

Field Trip to the Museum of Nature and Science IMAX Theater- Chaperones Needed!

On Wednesday, April 26th, the 6th grade team will be traveling back to the Museum of Nature and Science for another amazing field trip! This time, we will experience the wonders of IMAX as we Dream Big and learn about Engineering Our World! Heritage Elementary is committed to personalized learning and to STEAM education. This film will help support our goals! Dream Big 3D will transform how you think about the E in STEAM. This adventure takes you around the world to explore engineering marvels both large and small, ancient and modern. From the Great Wall of China to the high-tech Shanghai Tower, from underwater robots to solar powered cars, you will see how human ingenuity pushes the limits of innovation. Dream Big celebrates engineers who build, invent, and shape our world, and inspire the youth of today who will become the great minds of tomorrow. Chaperones are needed, please email me if you are interested. Payment for the museum, IMAX, and bus transportation will be accepted online. I've included the link to RevTrak below. Use this link for payment. Permission slips were sent home in Thursday Folders this week and are due back by Friday, April 7th.

Silent Auction

Theme: Kentucky Derby

Silent Auction-THANK YOU!!

Thank you to all who contributed to our class basket to be auctioned off at the Silent Auction! A HUGE thank you to Laura Walsh for coordinating this project!

I will be attending the auction and hope to see you there! It is a fun night and the auction is amazing! Invitations were sent home in Thursday folders this week, please RSVP soon!

Many of you have already submitted your photos but if not...please remember:

Steve and Deb Chabin are beginning to wrap up the yearbook and would like to do a Flashback Friday page for the 6th graders. They would like all 6th grade students to be represented on this page. So, each family needs to submit a few old photos of their kids over their elementary school years. (School parties, Kindie graduation, Field Day, Father/Daughter Dance, etc....) It's always nice to have photos that have multiple students in the picture.

They will use these same photos for a slide show that they are making that will play at the graduation.

Deadline for Purchasing a Yearbook is Approaching!

If you would like to purchase a yearbook, I have included the link below.
