Shared Reading

We are praticing oral reading fluency.

Please click on the link below to listen to our class practise our oral reading fluency. We are practising accuracy and expression. I used the app called Show Me to record us in the classroom. According to Tim Rasinski oral reading fluency is comprised of three components.
Accuracy: recognizing words
Rate: how fast the student reads the words
Expression: reading with excitement in the voice when exclamation marks are in print and raising the pitch of the voice for the last word in a question, or pausing at periods, and commas.
Fluency is important because it provides a bridge between word recognition and comprehension. This is because fluent readers do not have to concentrate on decoding the words, they can focus their attention on what the text means. They can make connections among the ideas in the text and between the text and their background knowledge. In other words, fluent readers recognize words and comprehend at the same time. Less fluent readers, however, must focus their attention on figuring out the words, leaving them little attention for understanding the text.
