Lakeland Counseling News

Week of September 21- 25, 2015

Seniors

Get ready! The seniors attended a presentation and received a planning guide during seminar this past week. They received valuable information to assist them with their future educational decision making. Be sure to discuss this with your student!

Representative from various Michigan colleges will be attending Lakeland (see dates below). We also encourage student to schedule college visits on their campus to assist in making an informed decision about their career path and higher education.

Juniors

Start thinking! Juniors will be attending a presentation on exploring career interests and higher education options. This will allow them to begin thinking about their plans for after high school. We encourage you to discuss this with your student!

Juniors are encouraged to attend the college visits offered to them at Lakeland, see dates below. Students can begin to explore career ideas and higher education options at these websites: www.careercruising.com , www.bigfuture.collegeboard.org , www.collegeprowler.com

Sophomores

Get involved! We encourage Sophomores to consider clubs, teams and volunteer in their community. There are many benefits to being involved such as improving social network, learning new skills, improving college applications and having fun!

Freshmen

Get in the know! Students should ensure they are checking their grades and not missing any assignments. Get to know your teachers and learn the best way to obtain assignment information from your teachers. Teachers may have websites on which they post the class syllabus, information and assignments. Record your teachers’ sites and check them regularly. If you miss a class, check the website for your assignments. Teacher websites can be found on the Lakeland Home Page.

Make sure to keep up on your work and regularly check your grades on Skyward. Reach out to your teacher or counselor if you feel that you need additional academic support outside of class.
