December 22: Find High-Quality Articles at iCONN.org
Whether you want your students to research a topic, or whether you want to find high quality articles in your subject area, iCONN.org (which will soon be called researchIT CT) is a great resource. iCONN offers free online resources and databases made available by the CT State Library. Using this resource you can easily search journal, magazine, and newspaper articles for specific content. Materials retrieved using iCONN are more vetted than regular web searches. In addition, the information retrieved is current and you can set a Lexile range to find articles accessible to 7th or 8th graders. iCONN is easy to use and 8th grade students who have had 21st Century first semester, have already used it.
Click here for a quick visualization. The links you should click are circled in red on the slideshow.
- Go to iCONN.org
- Click on "...for Middle Schools" on the left.
- Select your database. I recommend using Explora in the first column. This usually returns the most results and it is a good database for all subject areas.
- Search your topic in the search bar and browse the results. If you want to limit or fine tune your results, you may use the advanced search or the filters on the left side of the screen.
