Edition 18 Week of 12/31
From the Desk of Ms. Hicks
Welcome Back and Happy 2024!
We have 12 school days left until the end of the 2nd marking period. Now is the time to double check Parent Portal with your students and help them create a plan for a successful finish. Students will have 5 help day sessions to get additional support from their teachers, so please encourage your students to utilize this opportunity.
Additionally, now that it is January and mother nature is unpredictable, we have developed an easy-to-follow flow chart should a virtual day be called. Please see the virtual options and expectations below. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the school so your student will be ready in case there is a school closure.
Thank You PTA and Bates Families
We would like to say THANK YOU to our PTA and all of our families who volunteered their time, gave donations, and gifts for our winter dance, Bargain Basement, Bates-Mas, and teacher luncheon. We appreciate all that you do for the staff and students. We are very thankful to have such a wonderful Bates Family!

Reminders for the New Year
With all of us on a long break and the new year upon us, we just want to send a few reminders regarding our policies and procedures at Bates so the students can continue to be successful:
- All cell phones and air pods must be OFF and AWAY ALL DAY. If not, they will be taken from the student and parents may need to come to the school to pick them up.
- Uniform policy: Your student must be in their polo everyday. No hoodies, sweatpants, or jeans unless it is a special spirit day.
- School starts at 9:15am. Students must be inside the school and sitting in their advisory class by 9:15am or they will be considered late.
- Please no fast food at our school. Students should not be eating fast food in our school for breakfast or lunch. We provide free breakfast for the kids and if anyone forgets their lunch, they may get a lunch from the lunchroom.
- Attendance: If you need to report a student absent, you have options to notify the school.
- Submit an online absent note via Parent Portal
- or email Ms. Clark at cclark3@aacps.org
- or write a note and have the student drop it off to the front office.
