Teen Pregnancy Fact
- More than 10% of all births in the United States are mothers under the age of 20.
- About 1 in 4 teen mothers under the age of 18 have a second baby within 2 years after having the birth of their first baby.
Problems of Teen Pregnancy
- Possible health risks to the mother and the child
- Teens have difficulty supporting the child
Developing Risks
- The baby may take calcium from the mothers bones which can cause issues for the mother in the future.
- Weight fluctuations cause problems for the mother and the baby.
Dangers!!!
- Teens are more likely to smoke during pregnancy.
- Drinking during pregnancy causes fetal damages.
-Of 15 million diagnosed STD's each year 2/3 are teens!
Premature and Low Birth Weight Babies
- The earlier a baby is born, the higher the risk of respiratory, digestive, cognitive, and other problems.
-Low-birth weight babies weigh 3.3 to 5.5 lbs and very low birth weigh babies weigh less than 3.3 lbs.
- The outcome is low weight and premature babies have non developed organs and higher risks of sudden infant death syndrome.
