The Day After
January 8, 2021
The day after national tragedies are always difficult days in schools. Staff are tasked with making sense out of situations that they are often trying to make sense of themselves. The day after 9/11, the day after Columbine, the day after Sandy Hook... Similarly, this week brought the day after a siege at our Nation's Capitol. This week brought images and acts that many never thought possible on our soil let alone in our nation's capitol. Thomas classrooms spent some time over the last few days discussing the events of January 6 and I wanted to share with our school community the message all students heard on the morning show to start their day on Thursday and Friday.
I’m sure many of you saw these images and videos this week of our US Capitol “The People’s House” under attack. Whether you are a student or teacher these images were at a minimum unsettling and at worst terrifying.
It’s important for all of us to remember something I heard multiple times this week on TV: “Democracy is fragile.” You will all have a role for the rest of your lives to take care of yourself, your family and yes, your country. How do you do this? You can be kind to others and respect our laws, you can wear a mask during a global medical crisis, you can learn to be a consumer of good, truthful information and finally, when you turn 18 you can perform your civic responsibility and vote for people who exhibit the best qualities we want to see in ourselves and each other.
This is America.

Over the next 5 weeks, every student will have a one-on-one meeting with their School Counselor during your PE. class. This is your chance to discuss your course selection sheet for next school year with your School Counselor. Tri-M Honor Society Spreading Cheer!
Before our holiday recess the Tri-M Music Honors Society wanted to find a way to spread Christmas cheer to the people in area nursing homes. Residents of these homes are very lonely, that cannot have any visitors or have any gatherings. So about 10 students from the honors society made video recordings of them performing christmas carols. They put the videos on flash drives and brought them to the nursing homes to share some holiday cheer. Thanks Tri-M for being a positive force in the Webster community.
