2023-2024 Class Placement Process
Over the next two months, we will be creating the 2023-2024 class lists based on our best estimate of the enrollment projections and current budget information. We would like to assure you that every effort will be made to create balanced classrooms that represent a range of styles, abilities, and interests so as to achieve an optimal learning environment for all students.
The process of placing students appropriately is a complex one that involves a great deal of thought and effort on the part of the staff. Classroom teachers, special educators, school counselors, special subject teachers, administrators, and other staff members all take part in ensuring classes are well-balanced, dynamic learning communities. Classes are carefully crafted to place students with appropriate learning peers and a well-matched teacher. We take great pride in making sure this process is completed with care, and, at the same time, that it takes into account the interests of each individual child.
Factors considered include social relationships with peers as well as academic and emotional needs. While individual needs are given a high priority, they need to be considered in the context of the group. The consensus of our educators is that the dynamic of the total group is the most critical determinant of a successful classroom experience. It is important to recognize that individual needs are better met in classrooms that “work” as a whole.
As parents/guardians, you may have additional insight and information that will aid in the placement process. Your cooperation with this request will assure a fair and credible process for placement for all our students. Tomorrow, we will share an optional form to complete should you wish to share any information about your child's placement for next year.
On behalf of the TES staff, we ask that you respect our experience and professional judgment regarding the best class assignment for your child(ren) in the coming year. As always, we have your child’s best interests in mind and appreciate your trust and support.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Best,
Kerry Cavanaugh

Student Information Form
Each year all students must have an updated Student Information Form submitted through the parent portal. The information form, accessible through the parent portal, is used to collect items such as family information, emergency contact data, and medical permissions. It is crucial that you complete this form as soon as possible. Failure to submit this form will affect your student’s ability to attend field trips, participate in after-school activities, and receive medications from the school nurse.
Communication with the Main Office
IMPORTANT
We will use the following email address for ALL communication (i.e. sick calls, tardy calls, dismissal calls, change in child’s typical dismissal process).
tesattendance@tyngsboroughps.org
Please include your child’s teacher on any email correspondence with the main office. Always indicate child’s first name, last name, and grade level.
Changes to your child’s dismissal process should be communicated as early as possible and no later than 1:00
Mental Health Resources
Behavioral Health HelpLine (BHHL)
As an additional resource to families the state is rolling out the Behavioral Health Helpline (BHHL) available to everyone in the Commonwealth. BHHL connects individuals and families to a full range of treatment services for mental health and substance use offered in Massachusetts, including outpatient, urgent, and immediate crisis care. Please see the attached fliers for more information.
The William James INTERFACE Referral Service is a mental health resource and referral helpline available to subscribing communities across Massachusetts to access outpatient mental health services. When you contact William James, you will speak with a resource and referral counselor who will complete a confidential intake. Referral counselors will then use the information you provided to match you with providers in our community that accept your insurance as well as match your preferences for appointment times, specialties, and services.
Please call the Interface Helpline at 1-888-244-6843 Monday-Friday between the hours of 9-5.
You can also visit their website at interface.williamjames.edu for more information.
