Early Life and Birth
Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston Massachusetts. When he was 2 his mom died and his dad had already moved away so he got moved into the Allan foster home. His parents were both actors.
The Start of His Career
In 1826 Poe enrolled at Virginia but could not keep up with his finances. In 1827 Poe joined the army and also wrote Tamerlane and Other Poems. He joined West Point (a military academy) in 1830 and wrote Al Aaraaf and Tamerlane and Minor Poems. To make a living he wrote for a newspaper in 1835. He was a very harsh critic.

His Mysterious Death
In 1847 Poe´s wife Virginia died. After that he had bad health and was poor. Poe left Richmond on September 27, 1849. He was supposed to be heading to Philadelphia. He instead was found drunk in a bar in Baltimore and very sick. He was rushed to the Washington College Hospital. He died at the Hospital on October 7 and his last words were, "Lord, help my soul."
