Gardens' Greetings
December 2022
Happy Holidays from Bradley Gardens
I hope the parent teacher conferences proved helpful in gaining insight into your child’s performance at our school. Thank you for taking the time to attend the meetings with the teachers and for bringing your questions and concerns to us.
At the second Coffee and Conversation, Mrs. Fornaro shared her insight as a teacher on running and preparing for the parent teacher conferences. The guests in attendance discussed how they prepare as well to meet with the teacher. We also viewed a powerful video called, "Animal School." The message is so important and emphasizes making sure that our children have their affinities cultivated and that we aren't trying to make our children the best at everything. One lesson was that "why would the eagle need to learn how to climb when it already can fly."
The December holiday is bringing boundless energy to Bradley Gardens School. The children here have been busy practicing songs, publishing stories, and doing their BEST at BGS! That is a phrase we say for every school wide meeting where we celebrate the students' achievements. I’m so proud of all of their efforts!
Every year at BG we celebrate the 12 Days of Holidays. This year, it will begin on December 8th and run through the last day before break. Here are some of the fun days that your students can participate in:
- 12/14-Festive wear/Photo Booth
- 12/16-Ugly Sweater Day
- 12/21-Favorite Scarf Day
- 12/23-Pajama Day
The holidays bring an opportunity for pause and treasured conversations with our littles. I love sharing traditions with my own children. Let them know what the holidays mean and meant to you as a child. Share traditions, no matter how small. I sincerely wish all of you a joyful and peaceful Holiday and a Happy New Year! We look forward to 2023 with you and your children. Thank you for being an integral part of our Bradley Gardens School Family. We all wish you the happiest and healthiest holiday season.
Thank you to our PTO
Dear Parents, Community, and Friends,
On behalf of the Bradley Gardens Staff, I would like to sincerely thank the PTO for all of their efforts. They recently supplied a breakfast to the staff on the PD day, a dinner to the faculty during the evening conferences, and gave each grade level funds to makes purchases on Teachers Pay Teachers. Most importantly, under the direction of Mrs. Quereshi and Mrs. Krutz, they brought back the Thanksgiving Feast. This is an event that only takes place at Bradley Gardens School. The entire student and staff body ate a catered meal together and many PTO volunteers helped. Thank you ALL!

This month the students earned the award of student of the month in the trait of Acceptance and Tolerance. We discussed the importance of accepting the differences of others. This is an important message for everyone as we navigate a world full of unique traditions and customs. Nurse's Notes by Mrs. Colavito
The Many Hats of the School Nurse
Early in November, Mrs. Binford asked me to join in a discussion forum with parents called ”Coffee and Conversation”. She requested that I speak about health screenings. The room was filled with staff and parents but on a small scale. So I thought it might be helpful to carry the discussion on through this venue.
Each year, school nurses are mandated to perform health screening on all students. They include height, weight, blood pressure, hearing, vision, color vision, and scoliosis. These screenings help identify possible health problems as well as the development of an issue which may require further medical investigation. Each student is required to undergo these screenings unless a parent declines in writing. These health screenings provide a valuable baseline of information which follows the children throughout their school career. Many academic concerns can be solved through vision and hearing screenings. These referrals educate both parents and teachers, as to student’s inability to visually focus on the academic material, or their inability to hear and process classroom instruction. Parents are notified of any concerns with regard to these screenings, in writing through referrals. These referrals ask parents to follow up with their healthcare providers.
At the beginning of each school year, I talk with the students in preschool and
kindergarten, to explain these screenings. I bring many props with me to decrease
their anxiety and familiarize them with what happens in the health office. The best
part is …. I have STICKERS!
I hope this article has helped you understand part of my role as a school nurse. It's not
just Band-Aids and ice packs!
Bradley Gardens School Nurse…. A Nurse in the Know!
Counselor's Corner
Time certainly flies! It feels like the holidays snuck up on us. We have much to be thankful for this school year. Living in gratitude is an important part of our social and emotional growth. A fun way to celebrate fall and Thanksgiving with your family, is to share with one another things you are grateful for. Showcase gratitude by stringing up leaves. Collect fallen leaves with your family; with a marker, write things you are grateful for (one per leaf). Then, string up the leaves and display them. Add some lights and you have strung up gratitude!
I’d like to take this opportunity to share that I am grateful for each fourth grader who ran for our cabinet. This election year we had over 30 students run for our 4th Grade Cabinet (78% of the grade)! Each candidate campaigned and made speeches which they presented to all lunch periods. We are proud of each candidate; they each put in their creativity and tremendous effort! Congratulations to all our candidates. Thank you for the Bradley Gardens community for supporting this project. Presenting the 2022-2023:
Co- Presidents: Andrea Pe & Cameron Van Nice
Vice Presidents: Lilly Flessner & Nora Rath
Secretary: Arya Amin
Treasurer: Caiden Michalak
Wishing you and your loved ones a very Happy Thanksgiving.
