Teeland Middle School
October 2021
Letter from the Principal
10-1-21
Dear Teeland Families:
Our students have two more weeks until the end of the quarter and this year is moving fast! Many students have had to be at home due to personal illness, or illness in their families, and this has had a big impact on attendance. We will work with families individually to do our best to support our students that have had to be out due to health concerns. Please contact our school nurse, or the counselors, if this is the case with your student(s). TMS will team up with families to develop a plan for success for each student. We also have lunch support Monday-Thursday, and after-school study hall Tuesdays and Thursdays, to help students catch up on schoolwork.
Our case numbers dropped dramatically when we were in the Yellow Zone. As a result, the district’s Health Advisory Team, moved TMS back to the Green Zone last week. This means that currently staff and students are recommended, but not required, to wear masks in school. Many parents have asked me if the “back and forth” on mask wearing will continue all year. The answer is that unless the School District changes their stance and mandates mask wearing, we will more than likely continue to move between zones. With our current district plan, schools will continue to be dependent on case numbers to determine what mitigation measures are in place.
We need support from our families with the massive amount of phone calls to the front office and early pick-ups. We are asking that families make transportation arrangements prior to starting the day at school. If you need to contact the school to change arrangements, please call before1:00pm. After 1:00pm, we cannot guarantee that your student will get the message about a change in busing or pick-up plans. We realize that the bus driver shortages have created transportation issues, and we understand that students will need to leave for various reasons, but we do not have the capacity to handle the large volume of calls and pick-ups happening before the official end of the school day. Please keep your student(s) in school until 2:15 rather than pulling them out a few minutes early.
Parent/Teacher conferences will be scheduled October 28th via zoom, unless an in-person conference is specifically requested. More information will be sent out soon with sign up times and zoom links. Please feel free to reach out to your student’s teachers at any time. Email is the best way to connect, and teachers are happy to answer questions or address concerns. I appreciate hearing from parents as we all work together in STRIVING towards excellence!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hinds, Principal

Free Little Library
TMS has a Free Little Library in two different locations. One Free Library is outside the library doors inside the building, and the other location is outside the main entrance. Students are welcome to take a book from either of those library bins at any time. The books are free! If students would like to leave a book in the bin to donate, that would be great!
Any families that have age-appropriate books that they are wanting to donate for the bins, please leave the books at the front desk. Reading is highly encouraged at TMS and we want students to have books available to take home any time!
Congratulations to the TMS Cross Country Team!

Gently used LIFE board games that you no longer use. We would love to have them in the Home Ec room. We are also looking for felt squares or yards of fabric you are not using for our sewing units. Thank you so much! ~Mrs. Johnson
