Your World

Georgia Douglas Johnson

Your world is as big as you make it

I know, for I used to abide

In the narrowest nest in a corner

My wings pressing close to my side

But I sighted the distant horizon

Where the sky-line encircled the sea

And I throbbed with a burning desire

To travel this immensity.

I battered the cordons around me

And cradled my wings on the breeze

Then soared to the uttermost reaches

with rapture, with power, with ease!

What is "Your World" about?

The main idea of "Your World" is that every individual has their own world that they create and live in. It gives a strong message to push hard and achieve your goals. Toward the end of the poem it talks about how wonderful it is to achieve your goals and have success in your life. This poem tells you to give your life everything and never hesitate.

Why I chose this poem..

This poem is so simple yet so strong. The meaning of this poem is truly something every individual can take to heart. Life is about never giving up and persevering. This poem is beautifully written, Johnson uses symbols to show goals that the individual can accomplish. Johnson uses such bold world choice like: throb, cradle, and roar. I love this poem I think every person should strive to push for these things in life, in short terms never give up.

Unwritten By NATASHA BEDINGFIELD

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined

I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you

Open up the dirty window

Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines

We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you

Open up the dirty window

Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

Oh, yeah, yeah

Your World/Unwritten

I chose the song Unwritten to connect to my poem. Both the song and the poem talk about how you should follow your dreams, "reach for something in the distance" and "but I sighted the distant horizon." Both of theses lines are talking about pushing that last mile for your dreams, you are almost there you can make it. It is Your Life, and it is unwritten so go out write your life and create success.

Original poem-

It's your world, let it be

It's your life, do what you need

Reach for the stars

Follow your dreams

Everything you need, will be

Give life a chance, let it be
