IB Reminders
- Why conceptual teaching? Remember from the IB document From Principles into Practice, we learned that concepts are powerful, abstract ideas that have many dimensions and cross subject areas. These concepts promote a shared community of common practice among subject areas and all levels of IB. “What matters is not the absorption and regurgitation of facts, but the development of powers of the mind or ways of thinking.”
- Please practice the questions on Staff Links.
- This week, please submit the student work and graded rubrics requested and finish up edits on your unit plan for submission.
CEP for our Students
PBIS Updates - important
- Our FINAL PBIS Incentives will be held on the following dates:
- 6th Grade: April 26th
- In order to be eligible to attend, students cannot receive a MAJOR referral between March 9th and April 25th.
- 7th & 8th Grade: May 3rd
- In order to be eligible to attend, students cannot receive a MAJOR referral between March 22 and May 3rd.
- 6th Grade: April 26th
- The majority of our behavior referrals in Educator Handbook that occur in the classroom are for “Class Disruptions” or “Defiance”.
- One way to help prevent student misbehavior is to use PRE-CORRECTS in your classroom on a daily basis. What is the "Pre-correction/Prompting" instructional strategy? With "Pre-correction/Prompting", the teacher reminds students of expectations prior to activities or contexts under which there is a history of high risk of failure. These gestures or statements are best delivered immediately preceding the context in which the behavior is expected and provide students with a reminder to increase the probability of success. TRANSITIONS from one activity to another in your classroom are a great time to use pre-corrects!
Precorrection in action (45 second clip): http://video.louisville.edu/vod/flashmgr/sefrey01/Video/1438266452576-iPhone.mp4
This week, try using pre-corrects when transitioning into groupwork or independent work by explaining to students the expectations for the groupwork or activity as well as consequences for not meeting the expectations.
Heads up - 8th grade
- Some 8th graders will miss 1A on April 25:
- On Wednesday, April 25, TRAIL and the health classes are sponsoring a "Making the World Healthier, One Step at a Time" walk-a-thon. This is the culminating awareness project for their work with TRAIL this year. All 8th graders have had the opportunity to sign-up through health and PE classes to participate in the walk-a-thon. That morning in 1A homeroom, 8th graders will receive a free t-shirt IF they signed up/pledged to walk. At 9:15, please release only these students to meet in the auxiliary gym. At the conclusion of the walk at 10:15, they will return to 1A. You will be provided with a list of students as the date approaches.
- Some 8th graders will miss 3B and/or 4B on April 26:
- On Thursday, April 26, we will hold a presentation reception and celebration for the 8th graders who successfully complete their IB Community Projects, including service, process journals, and presentation. Those 8th graders who are going to present will miss all of 3B and 4B, and those 8th graders who are not going to present but completed the project will miss most of 4B. You will be provided with a list of students as the date approaches.
Just a few more days for Caught being...
- Caught Being...

- Students who explain themselves well on assignments, who stay after to class to discuss a topic.
