Leadership Team message from Jonathan R
Kia ora koutou,
I find it hard to get my head around the fact that we are at the end of the school year for 2023. It has been a long three years with the challenges of COVID and it is still with us. Recently we have seen increasing cases at the child and staff levels. We are all hoping for a settled summer break and into 2023 when we return to school on Tuesday 31st at 8:30am.
Your child's end-of-year report will come out [electronically] on the last day of the term and will include their class placement for 2023. Children will have visited their new class teacher and room prior to coming home on the last day. We will send out a staff list next week once fully confirmed.
Note school finishes at 1:00pm on Thursday 15th December [one week today] and re-opens on Tuesday 31st January at 8:30am.
Staff updates:
We wish Tracy an amazing year off on study leave, along with Katrina and Aine who have part of the year off to complete their study. The three of them are very fortunate to be given this opportunity on full pay by the Ministry of Education and we wish them all the best.
Rosie is taking a year of unpaid leave to rejuvenate after 30+ years in education without a break. You will see Rosie around as a day-to-day relief teacher.
We say goodbye to Yana who has been at Edendale for approximately eight years and Callum for three years. Ariel will also be farewelled after 3.5 years at Edendale. Shelly and Hannah are two of our learning assistants who have been here for part of the 2022 year and will not be returning in 2023. Thank you all for your service to our community.
Yashika and Nik finish with us this year but will return in 2023 in a part-time capacity.
We welcome Nico [from Ōtepoti] and Michaela [Tāmaki Makaurau] to our teaching staff in 2023 and children will get to meet both of them when they visit their new classrooms before the end of the year.
Thank you for all your support this year and we wish everyone the very best of summer breaks.
Stay well, stay safe, and be kind.
Ngā mihi

Edendale Eats
Edendale Eats last day for ordering will be Wednesday, 14 December.
There may be some items unavailable on the last day as I run down stock.
Thank you for all the support this year, it has been much appreciated.
I would like to take this opportunity to inform everyone that next year due to almost weekly increased food costs I will have to increase prices on certain items. Over the year I have tried to absorb these increases, but this is no longer sustainable.
Thanks in advance for your understanding and support.
I hope everyone has a great break and holiday and look forward to seeing you next year.
Ngā mihi

Edendale's Got Talent
Edendale tamariki showcased their talents at our Edendale’s Got Talent finals last week. This event was the idea of a small group of senior students, who with the help of Catherine (music specialist) and Jamie (STEAM specialist), made an idea a reality.
Jamie said she was “blown away” by the talent of our tamariki, how great their performances were, the hard work that went into preparing to be stage ready, and how brave they were to perform in front of everybody. Teachers, support staff and students have been watching the performances during morning tea and lunch.
Judges, who included students and staff, had a really hard job when they had to place the finalists. Performances included dance, gymnastics, singing and magic.
Here are the winners for EGT - well done to everyone who participated.
Junior Division (year 3/4)
3rd place - Sydney, Room 4
2nd place - Brooke, Freya, Harriet, Penelope, Aria, Charlotte, Room 12
1st place - Lacey, Room 7
Senior Division (year 5/6)
3rd place - Jasmine, Jessica, Methuki, Isla, Anika, Room 27/28
2nd place - Apoorva, Room 24

STEAM Programme
Our STEAM programme is looking for donations of floating items like pool noodles or kick-boards for a project we are doing. If you have anything similar, please let Jamie know.
Big pieces of polystyrene packaging from Christmas presents would also work, so if you don't mind hanging onto those until the new school year, Jamie will gladly take them off your hands.
Thank you!
Do you have a spare room and need some extra money for next year?
Edendale has been lucky enough to secure a Mandarin language assistant to work at the school in 2023.
This person is needing some accommodation for the year, a bedroom preferably in the school community. The amount payable is around $350.00.
If you would be interested in hosting this person please email jonathanj@edendale.school.nz
School closes at 1:00pm, 15 December 2022
