OSSB Read-A-Thon Wrap-up and Thanks!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the First Annual Read-A-Thon at OSSB! Mrs. Kallstrom and Mrs. Bardon both hope this becomes an annual event! Children and staff enjoyed dressing up much like a typical Spirit Week as they continued to read their favorite books, and log their minutes. More than 37,000 minutes were logged, and donations of more than $850 were made the the OSSB Parent Teacher Staff Foundation to support student activities during the 2021-22 school year.

Mobility Week at OSSB - It Takes A Village!

Last week in honor of White Cane Day, the Orientation and Mobility department planned many special events! Activities included White Cane Tune-Ups, White Cane Day Crafts, an Obstacle Course and a Panel Zoom session from Pilot Dogs about the importance of strong O&M skills!

Mr. James Prater, Maintenance Services at OSSB, helped out by letting kids get up close with one of the vehicles used on campus. While obstacles were placed around the outdoor area, students used their canes and hands to explore everyday items, like hula hoops, a bike, a car, street lights, big yellow signs, and even a crosswalk signal button. Kids had to use their canes to maneuver around the 'obstacles'. Mr. Prater explained that he "talked with them about the gator, and I told them about the different features on it and also let them touch them controls." Special thanks to everyone who made Mobility Week a wonderful success!
