STUDENT FOCUS
Summer Reading
Did you know? Summer reading slide does exist.
Research illustrates that by the end of sixth grade, children who do not read during the summer are two years behind the reading skills of their peers.
But wait! There is an easy solution!
Reading just four to five books during the summer can prevent summer reading decline, studies show.
Your child can avoid the cumulative effects of summer reading slide by flexing their reading muscles this summer.
★ Make it fun! ★
avoid rules of length, difficulty, or format
★ Let them choose! ★
independent book selection increases motivation
★ Make reading an expectation! ★
What did you read today?
We challenge your student to enjoy ten fun books this summer!
Join the MMS Summer Reading Challenge! Return this form in the fall to be part of our reading celebration sponsored by our Middle School Parent Involvement committee.
Visit your public library -- in person or virtually!

THANK YOU...
ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES
As we wrap up the 2018-19 school year, we want to take a moment to say thank you for your part in making this another tremendous year for our Middle School student-athletes.
For the 18-19 school year, we had over 800 participants in middle school sports or activities. We appreciate the encouragement and support provided to our students to join a sports team or participate in an activity.
A few reminders for the summer and upcoming 2019 fall seasons:
Students entering 7th grade OR who will be participating in a sport for the first time need to have a Sports Physical Clearance Form on file with our Middle School Activities Office.
Registration for fall sports will open later this summer. Details will be communicated via the district website under the Middle School Athletics tab.
Back to School Day will be at the Middle School on Tuesday, August 13th.
