Principal's Corner
It's hard to believe that the calendar has flipped to December already!! Along with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season be sure to remind your child they are a unique and special individual. Spend time with them over the holiday break. Go sledding, ice skating, to a movie, or have family movie night, play outside with them, build a snowman/snow fort, read a book to/with them. They are only this young once.
Steeby has recently began a program to recognize one student per week in each class for outstanding achievement in academics or character traits! We are calling this Steeby Stellar Students! Our hopes are to be able to have each child receive one of these awards at least once during the rest of the school year!
Just a reminder that Steeby’s school day start and end times are 8:45am and 3:45pm. Thank you for you cooperation and understanding in having your children here on time every day to learn!
Students are showing great gains in their writing skills! This is one of Steeby’s School Improvement goals for the 18-19 school year. Students have three on demand pre and post-assessments throughout the school year; one being an Informational, another being a Personal Narrative, and the other an Opinion. During the post-assessments students are to apply the skills they’ve learned to help teachers determine the amount of growth they have made. With the first writing completed students have shown some very good gains in their sentence structure, grammar, penmanship, and ideas! Steeby has four additional School Improvement goals in the areas of Math, Reading, Science and Social Studies.
Below I’ve listed some topics of conversation you may have, or questions you may ask your child about their day at school. This will generate more discussion than the typical “How was school today?” question. These ideas come from the Home & School Connection.
1. “Let’s see what you brought home.”
2. “Show me what you have for homework.”
3. “Describe a book you enjoyed today.”
4. “Tell me what you learned that you’d like to know more about.”
5. “What’s the coolest thing that happened today? What wasn’t so cool?”
6. “Pretend you’re the teacher. How would you describe the day?”
7. “What made you laugh?”
8. “How were you kind or helpful today? Was anyone kind or helpful to you?”
I wish you and yours a special holiday break!!

Food Drive
Congratulations to Mrs. Nykerk's 2nd grade classroom for bringing in the largest number of items. WEPA will thank them by providing the class with an ice cream party!
Winter Weather Gear Reminders
We are requesting that parents label their students winter gear with their first and last name if possible. This makes it much easier for us to find the owner of items that are placed in lost and found.
Media Center Corner
The week of December 3rd we are celebrating the Hour of Code and going to hourofcode.com to practice coding in a fun game format. Students love learning how to problem solve and code.
Have a great holiday break and remember to read, read, read!
