Webster Weekly
DANIEL WEBSTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - PASADENA, CA
Week of February 19, 2023

Principal's Message
Good evening Webster families,
I hope that you were able to enjoy our three day weekend and re-energize as we celebrated Presidents Day. According to National Today, Every third Monday of February (February 20) we celebrate Presidents’ Day in all its patriotic glory. Many people relish their day off of work, but they might be surprised to know that that was the point! In 1971, Presidents’ Day moved in an effort to create more three-day weekends for the public in the hope that this would inspire greater productivity nationwide. It was believed that at this point in the year, the restorative effects of the winter holidays have begun to fade and people need another break to regain some of that lost stamina.
We had a great NED Assembly on Friday afternoon. This assembly encouraged children to have a Growth Mindset. Please join us at our PTA meeting on Tuesday, when I will further discuss this and the "power of yet!"
I will also be presenting information regarding Title I funding at Webster. The link to join the PTA meeting remotely is:

The Webster Read-A-Thon, which will continue through March 3rd, and the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge are ongoing. Please see the information below.
Cal Fresh will be at Webster on Wednesday beginning at 7:30am.
Also on Wednesday is our Domenico's Restaurant Night. Give yourself a break from cooking and support Webster students!
This is our last week with Ms. Tatoulian, our amazing Theatre Arts resident artist. Our TK - 2nd graders are thoroughly loving their time on stage.
We will have a school tour for any prospective families on Friday at 8:30am. Please spread the word among family and friends.
Mrs. Chapman's class will take a field trip to the Pasadena Museum of History this Friday.
This week, all Webster teachers will be continuing our Anti-racism training. We continue to learn, listen, and reflect. We strive for diversity, equity and inclusion throughout our Webster community.
Thank you to all families who are working with us on a safe drop-off and pick-up for all students and for all of your positive comments.
Parents are not to drive into nor "hover" in the staff parking lot at drop-off nor pick-up. This is a safety concern as well as a matter of respect.

The NED Show
As you know we recently hosted an all school event called NED’s Mindset Mission. We trust your student was encouraged by the show which taught about having a positive Mindset for learning and life!
Mindset Mission yoyos are still available for purchase to support the free show and message. If your student has already purchased a yoyo, here is an important link to help them get off to a good start with proper string length adjustment, click here.
Additionally, here are a couple of our favorite follow up home resources from the Mindset Mission website. You may want to use these with your child as they are designed to go hand in hand with the program.
NED Coloring Face Masks
Parent Encouragement Notes
If you'd like additional resources, they are available here.
And don’t forget to ask your student what they learned in the show about having a growth mindset from YET the Yeti, Captain Kindly and during NED’s visit on the spaceship!
Educating together!
Restaurant Night at Domenico's in on Wednesday!

Tax Deductible Giving through Webster's Annual Fund
Daniel Webster Elementary School has been honored as a California Distinguished School. Great teachers, strong leadership, and parent involvement make Daniel Webster a great school to send our children.
In addition to the great education our students receive, they are also provided with various opportunities to participate in our music and arts activities. We're asking for your support to continue this legacy by donating to the Daniel Webster Annual Fund and help us reach our goal of $50,000.
These funds will be used to financially support our music and arts programs, and to support the instructional goals set forth by the School Site Council
We would like to see every family donate at least $1.00 per week ($50 for the school year) for each child they have enrolled at Daniel Webster.
Think of it as donating less than the cost of a weekly cup of coffee or soft drink to help ensure that your child receives a high quality education.
If you can donate more, we would encourage you to donate towards our Giving Tree. We have various levels of donations:
Bronze - $100
Silver - $200
Gold - $300
VIP - $500 or more
If you are not able to contribute financially please consider donating your time and talents.

Parent Portal
It is necessary that the school has accurate contact information, including a working email. You can update all important contact information on the parent portal. Aeries Parent Portal is a wonderful resource that all parents need to sign up for in order to access student attendance, grades, and teacher information to name a few. If you do not yet have an Aeries Parent Portal account, you can go to https://www.pusd.us/Page/6203 and follow the instructions to create an account. Please make sure you have set up your account before school starts so you know what class your child has been assigned to for the 2022-2023 school year.
In our commitment to take the appropriate measures to protect all student information and privacy, we are making changes to the requirements for all passwords within Aeries student, parent, and staff portal accounts.
