Specials for the Week of January 6- 9th
P.E. will be on Tuesday, and Thursday our first week back from our winter break. Please return your library book on Monday so you can check out another one.
Leonardo Paz is our Star of the Week. We loved seeing his pictures and one of his favorite places to go is Legoland!
Didn't our students do an Amazing job in their holiday program? I am SO proud of my kindergartners. I am so happy so many parents could attend. Thank you also to Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Rogers for organizing our holiday party! We had so much FUN and appreciate all the parents that came to help!! Mrs. Hanagriff and I LOVED our gifts from the class and appreciate lots of our "favorite things"! We wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
LANGUAGE ARTS
We are working on:
- Building our sight word vocabulary-
- Blending letters to make CVC words
- Working on recognizing and creating rhyming words
- Counting, blending, and segmenting syllables
- Working on putting uppercase letters at the beginning of a sentence and naming end punctuation.
- Features of non-fiction text
- Finding information in non-fiction text
- Creating pictures and phonetically spelling words to tell a story- focusing on setting, characters, and at least 3 details about our story
- Working in guided reading groups- please have your child read the book to you and return it the next day
- Working independently in Daily Five centers to become better readers, writers, and spellers

We are working on:
- BUILDing Mathmeticians during our Math Workshop
Using math manipulatives to learn about numbers
Using math tools- number line, rekenrek, and tens frame to build numbers
Daily calendar math
- Counting by tens, fives, and ones to 100
- Recognizing coins; penny, nickel, dime, and quarter and knowing their values
- Writing numbers and counting sets to 20
- 1-1 correspondence
- Comparing sets- more, less, same
- Using "number talks" to explain our math thinking
- Using the "Notice and Wonder" strategy to help us with problem solving
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
We are working on:
- Goods and Services
- Needs and Wants
- What is gravity?
Craig Character Award
Julian Rodriguez earned the Craig Character award for demonstrating peace! He will be recognized on the Craig news show next week.
