NEW Student Survey
Schools must administer the Student Engagement Survey for 10% of the accountability score on the 2018 Report Cards. The administration window is April 2, 2018 through May 18, 2018. Approximate administration time is 20 minutes per student. Students in grades 3 - 12 will need to take the survey. This new survey is different from the current South Carolina Student Climate Survey administered in grades 5, 8 and 11. For this school year, both surveys will be administered.
I would like a few minutes with grades 3-5 in grade level meetings this week to discuss this.

FYI: Student Registration for 2018-2019
New Student Registration
K5 ONLY: April 14 – June 15
Grade 1 – 12: April 23 – June 15
*If registering AFTER June 15, family would be required to visit the school and meet one on one with a registrar or other school official to receive paper packet. Once turned in, the information contained in the paper packet will be manually entered by the school.
Returning Student Registration
Current Grades K5 – Grade 11: April 16 – June 15
*If registering AFTER June 15, family would be required to visit the school and meet one on one with a registrar or other school official to receive paper packet. Once turned in, the information contained in the paper packet will be manually entered by the school.
During the registration period for New and Returning students, each student must provide a POR to the school. IF after June 15, student is required to bring POR and any other required documentation with them to the school to register during “Open House” or “Meet the Teacher” nights later in the summer.
Why is the deadline June 15?
In both new and returning student registration, the date is set before the planned and coordinated “rollover” with PowerSchool.
Is everything online?
No. The registration process will be a blend of online and paper-based for both new and returning students. For all students, medical and free/reduced lunch forms will be completed at the school site on paper and provided to the school nurse. The completed information can then be entered into appropriate system. Families will be encouraged to complete F/R lunch application online directly through the Food Services department. The Home Language Survey will be completed at the school level for all new students.
What about Proof of Residency?
Every student registering (new and returning at all grades) is required to provide an accepted POR to the school during the registration window. Annually, a POR is to be placed in the student’s permanent folder. A student’s registration packet is not complete until an accepted POR has been received by the school.
Accepted Proof of Residence (POR) documents include: Electric Bill, Gas Bill, or a Rental or Lease Agreement. The top portion of the bill showing the billing address of the residence being confirmed is required.

Teacher Survey Our BEDS code is 4603023
Please answer questions based on the entire year. I know we are all tired and ready for Spring Break, but make sure your responses reflect an overall view. This is the data we used to determine our focus for professional development this year!
The online teacher survey portal will open on Wednesday, March 21, and the survey can be accessed from the State Department of Education website at http://ed.sc.gov/. Teachers will scroll down to the “Hot Topic” section and select “Teacher Survey.”
This year, the teacher survey still has the same format and same questions. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Teachers must first enter their school identification number (also known as the BEDS CODE or SIDN) and click START to begin. School name will appear. If the school name appearing on the survey form is not the right school, exit the survey and reenter the school identification number. Please understand there is a timeline for completing the teacher survey online. The portal opens on March 21 and closes on April 23.
Who completes this survey?Teachers, librarians, guidance counselors, and speech therapists at their school should complete the teacher survey. Part-time teachers may complete a survey form if they are on campus at least half of each school day or week. The survey may be completed using any computer with internet access. Teachers may use their home computers. If teacher experience problems with their school’s internet access, please direct them to your district technology coordinator for assistance.
Cool Table Takes the Show on the Road
Last summer the Kiefer family had an incredible opportunity to go to Jamaica for a week to work with some kids and carry the message of value, potential, and purpose into their world. It was eye opening and life changing.
This summer we are headed back to head up another week of kids' camp.
To help fund the trip we are selling tee shirts.
I thought I'd pass this along to see if any teachers or staff were interested in having one.
