College App Boot Camp Held

Mrs. Karen Matthews, one of our BGHS counselors, planned and coordinated a College App Boot Camp to prepare our incoming Seniors to get a head start on the college application process. The Boot Camp was held on Tuesday, July 2, at the Hornet Park Community Center. College admission staff from IU, Purdue, and UIndy presented and shared tips and important information. Students were assisted with starting the Common App, which can be tricky to navigate. Lunch was provided and a lot of very useful information was shared with our students.

BGCS Staff Participate in Training

Kudos to our K-6 staff that attended two days of Fountas & Pinnell Literacy training in order to help our students become better readers. As Mrs. Erin Probus, Hornet Park Elementary's Principal, stated, "We had 32 awesome staff members from Hornet Park Elementary, Central Elementary, and South Grove Intermediate School give up two summer days to come together in the spirit of professional growth to take next steps in our reading instruction for our elementary boys and girls." Dr. Christi Wright facilitated the training. Mrs. Rita Bass, Director of Elementary Education, added, "Our teachers were enthusiastic and engaged in learning to ensure our students have the BEST opportunities!!! BGCS is lucky to have such caring teachers!"

Send Us Your Hornet Highlights!

We know there are many, many positive stories about Beech Grove City Schools involving our students, teachers, staff, and programs that we don't always hear. If you have a positive story to share, please send the details to Melody Stevens, Community Relations/Communications Director, at mstevens@bgcs.k12.in.us. We also encourage you to send stories that include personal achievements of your child such as: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, performing in a community play, earning Girl Scout badges, serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, etc., etc. You might just see your story in a future edition of the "Hornet Blast" or in one of our local south side newspapers. We want to celebrate our Hornets!
