Eagle Nation: Weekly GWHS News
Back 2 School Edition: Vol 1. Issue 10/ October 31, 2021
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Eagle Nation,
With November, we continue with our positive momentum. October gave us some fantastic student led events to bring our families and school together. Attendance conferences were well attended and conversations were had with parents. We continue to present programming for our parents to help overcome the common challenges encountered in high school.
It is so very hard to wrap our heads around the fact that we are only a few shorts weeks away from Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday by the way) and a mere two months away from Winter Break. I find myself asking just where did all that time go? Without a doubt, this has been the most challenging nine-weeks for education since World War I, but as the saying goes, time flies when you re having fun. It is easy to move from one day’s challenges to the next without realizing that these days stack up. These days turn to weeks and the weeks into months.
Time seems to slip by us when we have a heads down and focusing on the needs of now. We have to take the time to enjoy the view, or else we run the risk of not "seeing" the trees for the forest. Yes, I know that I inverted the saying for you see, there would be no forest without each singular tree. Sometimes we have to step back and enjoy the individual things and separate those precious moments and appreciate each of them for what they are.
GREAT things are happening at George Washington High School and this week's newsletter is dedicated to the leaders of those great things...the GW student body. My hat is off to you and please realize that without you...there would be no GW! The beginning of the second nine weeks gives us the opportunity to look a little further forward with the information we learned from the past. What did work for us? What presented challenges? How did we address these challenges?
As we steam forward into the second 9 weeks grading period, remember “Leaders build the future with clays of the past. Every good moment gives them ideas; every bad moment gives them lessons.” ― Israelmore Ayivor
Have a fantastic week Eagles,

Gridiron News:
Senior Eagles Making Big Moves On and Off the Field
Senior Eagles are making big moves on and off the field. According to Coach Stadler, Jaylen Spratt had an official visit to Virginia State last weekend. In addition, Jakoby Dixon and Will Daniel visited Guilford College in Greensboro about a month ago. Coach went on to share that Don Harmon, Omarion Hairston and Amad "Worm" Poole took a recent visit to Elon University. Also, Harmon, Spratt and Hairston were guests at the UNC/Duke game a few weeks ago. Ahmad Poole also took a visit to Liberty back in September.
Coach went on to share how proud the entire coaching staff is of all these players and the way they represent GWHS both on and off the field. We'd like to thank assistant coaches Jay and Cody Perdue for helping these young men through this process. Included below are a couple of pictures from the visit to UNC.
