Message from Principal Ellwein
Greetings Titan families,
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. We are nearing the end of the 1st semester. We will release early on Wed., January 8th and Thurs., January 9th at 11:45am. Students will not have school on Fri., Jan. 10th, as this is a teacher work day. With so few days left in the semester please take some time to sit down with your student and look at Echo. The login directions and access to the site are also in this newsletter. If you have difficulties logging in, please contact the school and we will assist you. Please encourage your student to turn in any missing work, prepare for upcoming presentations and strive to finish the semester strong. We will be sending home report cards with your students on Friday, January 17th. You can also access their quarter and semester grades on Infinite Campus and in Echo.
With the start of the 2nd semester on Monday, January 13th we will be implementing a slight change to our daily classroom schedule. With this new schedule we will begin the school day at 8:10am and end our school day at 2:20pm. Busses will continue to run at the same times they had previously. This adjusted schedule gives students more time to work with teachers and classmates before and after school. This schedule also gives students more time in the morning to eat breakfast. Students that take CTE classes will still be able to take those classes and shuttle transport to CTE from New Tech will remain unchanged. Additionally, we have begun thinking about our transition to Jefferson and opted to begin rolling in longer passing times to acclimate students to this type of schedule. We have also started examining the schedule for the 2020-21 school year and will likely run a different student day schedule next year as well. To see the new 2nd semester schedule breakdown, please see Mrs. Jorgenson’s article in this newsletter.
As we plan for the new semester, here are a few 2nd semester events to mark on your calendars. Parent/ Teacher conferences will be held from 4-7:30pm on Feb. 10th and 11th. President’s Day break will be February 17th and 18th. In March, we will hold our Spring Fling week from March 9th-13th, with a dance on Friday the 13th from 8-11pm. This dance will be for New Tech students only; no outside guests are allowed at Spring Fling. March 19th and 20th are no school days in the district. April 10th-13th is Spring break followed by Senior Prom on Saturday, April 25th from 9-midnight with the grand march at 8:30pm. Our 2020 graduation ceremony will be held at the Sioux Falls Arena on Sunday, May 24th at 11am.
We will begin the pre-registration process for next year's classes in January and February. As we look ahead to course offerings and the schedule for next school year, now would be a great time to talk with your student about courses that they wish to take during the 2020-21 school year. Here is a link to the online HS course book for your review. https://sites.google.com/k12.sd.us/hs-courseguide/home?authuser=0
On January 23rd we will hold our registration open house for incoming 9th graders and their families from 6-7pm in the cafeteria. Once again, I hope you all had a fantastic Winter Break and wish you the best in the New Year! Thank you all for your continued support of New Tech. If you have any questions we encourage you to reach us at 367-5850.
Sincerely,
Dolly Ellwein, Principal

Class Registration for 2020-2021 school year
During the month of December, Mrs. Donohoe has been visiting Seminars to work with students on their 4 year course plan, specifically their classes for next school year. Starting the end of January, Mrs. Donohoe will be visiting Seminars again to finalize their class registration for the 2020-2021 school year. As a parent, it is important to visit with your child about their class choices. Graduation requirements and a list of class options are available on Mapping Your Future on ECHO. Students can also access their current transcript on Infinite Campus. If you have any questions, please contact Vickie Donohoe, NTHS Counselor, 367-5850.
