A Note from Mrs. Wagner
Thank you to our AMAZING PTA for a fantastic Hoe Down and all the food for our staff during Parent/Teacher Conference week. We are very lucky to have an amazing parent community.
Speaking of Parent/Teacher conferences, if you haven't completed one with your child's teacher, please reach out to schedule this as it's a district requirement that we complete 100% of our conferences each year.
We will have two guests in our building that I wanted to introduce.
- First, we will have a SAM data collector in our building two days this week (Oct. 29 & 31). Kevin Freeman will be here to track how I spend my time during the day so that I can reflect and adjust my practices to better support instruction. He will simply be noting how I spend my time.
- Secondly, Mr. Wes Zongker will be substituting for me Nov. 13-15 while I attend training. Mr. Zongker is a retired principal and former Sequiota principal. He subbed for me last year as well.
Arrival & Dismissal Updates:
- We're starting to have a crowd of students develop prior to 8:20 outside of our cafeteria doors. Please remember that we can not provide supervision prior to 8:20 and therefore we ask that you please wait to drop your children off until 8:20 or later.
- Please remember we do not allow dogs on campus. Please refrain from bringing your dog with you for arrival and dismissal unless they remain in your vehicle
- Please hang your car tag from your visor or review mirror - this helps speed up our car line. The car tags are easily cut to create a "hook" or you can use a binder clip, baby hanger, etc. to hang it from your visor/review mirror.
- Please leave the car tag hanging in until your child loads into the vehicle. We reference the names on the tag multiple times to help line up the students by the correct number for loading.
Attendance Matters
Attendance Updates
Year to date Attendance percentage: 96.60% - This has dropped since last month, let's keep pushing to be here each day!
Tardies Matter Too!
- This is an area of true concern. Last month we didn't have one class with zero tardies to honor at our celebration assembly.
- Remember that our learning begins with the tardy bell (8:50) and when a student is late they are missing important learning.
- If your child is arriving after 8:50 you'll need to walk into the foyer and sign them in.

A Note from Mr. Thomas - Sequiota Librarian
Additionally, Mr. Thomas has started creating two different Podcasts with our students.
One podcast is an opportunity for students to connect with a grandparent (or any elder relative) by completing a short interview in connection to the "Great Thanksgiving Listen". Here's a link to the Sequiota families podcasts.
The second podcast is called "Sequiota Reads" and is a way for students to share their favorite books with their peers. Here's a link to the "Sequiota Reads" podcasts.
We're very lucky to have Mr. Thomas creating these wonderful opportunities for our students!

Volunteering at Sequiota!
We appreciate our volunteers at Sequiota very much! All volunteers who volunteer during school hours (including PTA) must fill out a volunteer application every year but only need one background check per 4 years.
If you would like to volunteer in the school, attend your child's field trips or need to fill out your annual application, please go use the link above to complete this step. It takes 4-7 business to clear. Please check your email often during this time as there is a second email where you must initiate the background check, an important step that is easy to miss.
Volunteers when you come to Sequiota to volunteer, there is a clipboard next to the Hall Pass check-in kiosk if you could please sign in and out on the clipboard after you check in with Hall Pass, Mr. Sharkey would appreciate it, he logs in all of our volunteer's hours. If you log your own hours on sps.org, you do not need to sign the clipboard.
If you have any questions please contact Mr. Sharkey, our volunteer coordinator at ssharkey@spsmail.org
