Wear Orange to Promote Awareness About Distracted Driving on April 2, 2019
Owen Brezitski was killed by a distracted driver in March 2011. Karen and Makenna Brezitski, Owen’s mother and sister, started Owen’s Foundation in his honor. Each year, the organization coordinates an Orange-Out Day to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. We encourage our community to drive intentionally and with focus to protect themselves and others.

Join Us in Celebrating East Pennsboro Area School District’s Excellent Music Program
Have you ever wondered how music enriches education? Can music help us learn better? The answer seems to be, “yes!”
According to a publication in Early Childhood Research Quarterly, musical instruction improves spatial-temporal performance (Important for math success!)
Research published by the journal, Neuropsychology, shows that children who learn an instrument have improved linguistic skills and verbal and visual memory.
The College Board reports that “students with four years of music/arts study score 10-12% higher on the SAT than others.”
Even more encouraging, along with other fine arts, music supports the development of the whole child. Lisa Phillips, writing for Americans for the Arts, noted that students who study art develop essential characteristics for a successful future.

West Creek Hills and East Pennsboro Elementary Students Enjoy Chartwells Discovery Kitchen
Last week, West Creek Hills and East Pennsboro Elementary School students enjoyed Chartwells Discovery Kitchen. Students learned all about potatoes and had an opportunity to taste test!
Director of Dining Services, Ryan McCarthy, said, “This month our food focus is potatoes, and today the students got to try a recipe using mixed marble potatoes and learn all about the health benefits that potatoes provide. It was fun watching the students try the purple potatoes, as you could tell who had never seen one before as the look of bewilderment filled their face as they bit into it and discovered it had a purple inside to it!”
