Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 15th October 2021
A Day of Adventures
Year 6 go abseiling, gorge walking and caving at How Stean Gorge
Back at school we did reflect how we had shown our current school value of perseverance through the activities.
"I had to use my perseverance when I had to walk past the spier in the caves. If found out that I'm not as scared of spiders as I thought I'd be.' Olivia
'I persevered in getting to the end of the caves and conquering my claustrophobia.' Oliver
'I persevered to get my wetsuit on and I also helped others to get theirs on and off. I persevered in the last cave because it got smaller and tighter.' Alice
'I persevered when I jumped off the rock into the gorge.' Josh
'I persevered because I did not know if I wanted to abseil. When I did it I wanted to do it again!' Daniel
'I learnt that despite the fact I was scared of abseiling, I did it! Not only that I was the first out of the whole class to get down - I even beat Mr Holmes.' Alexa
Year 5 Take on Go Ape
On Tuesday 12th October, Year 5 went to Go Ape at Dalby Forest. We departed school at 8.30am. On the bus everyone was chatting excitedly. The journey felt as though it took hours, however it only took 1 hour and a half. We couldn't wait, which was annoying as we had to, as we hadn't been on a school trip for a long time.
Once we got there, the course was bigger and higher than anyone expected. There were four people on a platform who were called Will, Jess, Flo and Sasha, they instructed us on to how to put on our safety harness. Eventually, we went on a practice course and then we were taught how to clip on the harness using a carabiner and trolley.
Laboriously, I strode up the stairs onto the first obstacle. I knew I wouldn't fall because I was attached to the wire. The zip line was very good because you could just sit and hold on.......or not!
After lunch, we played some team games.
We had a fantastic day at Go Ape. It was an experience I will never forget.
Delicious DT in Year 1
We created a design criteria together to make it a perfect healthy snack for Little Red Riding Hood’s grandma, linking with our previous work in writing. The children used the instructions they had written in this week’s writing lessons to create their kebabs which were delicious.
Brass Lessons in Year 5 and Year 6
Mosaics in Year 4
The children experimented with different colours and patterns to create their own fabulous geometric patterned tiles.

Sponsored climb/bounce Tuesday 19th October 2021 A Letter from the Ambassadors
On Tuesday 19th October, at school, we are having a sponsored climb for children in Years 3-6 and a fabulous sponsored bounce for Early Years and Years 1 and 2. This sponsored event is very important as it will raise money for learning beyond the classroom. This includes the work we do with Forest Schools and outdoor adventurous activities. These are great parts of the curriculum that all class enjoy because they give us new opportunities that we can’t do in the classroom. We develop our skills in design technology, science and many other subjects. We also gain the ability to explore and work together to achieve goals. This is a great part of our school.
To support these important learning opportunities we are asking children to get sponsors from family and friends (using the sponsor form sent home with your child) for their terrific climbing (to the top of the wall) and brilliant bouncing (non-stop for 10 minutes). Parents can then collect the cash and make a donation via ParentPay. We hope this will be a great way that the children of Cathedral School can support our curricular opportunities.
Get climbing and bouncing!

We are in the process of confirming Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd December as our Christmas Holiday Club dates. Booking will go live as soon as our building management company confirm. We will not be holding the club in the October half term break.
We are finding that the breakfast and after school clubs are busier than ever now that parents are returning to work away from the home. However, we still have room so do make sure you are set up on the booking site so that you can arrange any childcare needs.
Please contact Mrs Rich in the office if you have any questions or experience issues logging on.
