Nau mai, hoki mai!
A warm welcome back to Term 2. School starts back tomorrow, Wednesday 26th April at 8.55 am. I hope you had a pleasant break and that students are recharged and ready for another exciting term of learning! We continue with our big learning concept; Whenua, Whānau, Whakapapa. This term we will focus on the social sciences and our local history.
Highlights this term include:
- Booktown Young Readers
- school photos
- cross country
- whānau open evening
- lots of sport
- Matariki celebrations
- speeches
- junior poetry recital
- school disco
In staffing news, our wonderful staff member Viane Roberts will be sadly leaving her Teacher Aide role at the end of Week 2. We thank Viane for all her kindness, care and creative flair and we will miss her in the classrooms. The good news is Viane will still be part of the St T's whānau as she continues to run The Hub Club after school and in the holidays.
We welcome back Miss Cherryl Norman to the junior team as Mary is unwell. Cherryl and I will be teaching Wairarapa class at the start of the term. We will maintain all regular routines and fabulous learning that our students are familiar with. I know you will join me in wishing Mary a speedy recovery.
Finally, I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who made Term 1 such a success. Our very talented and dedicated teachers and support staff, the Board for their support and vision, the FOSTA team for their tireless fundraising, whānau who gave their time to support trips, fundraisers and working bees and of course the best kids in town - our wonderful students! I look forward to seeing you all back at school tomorrow morning.
God bless,
Lindsey Dailly, Tumuaki

Anzac Prayers
On this Anzac Day, honour all those who have given their lives in wars and conflicts so that we can enjoy peace and freedom. Let us remember that peace in the world begins with each one of us choosing to live the message of Jesus – the Gospel message of love and harmony.
Let us remember especially the people of Ukraine who are suffering the horrors and destruction of war at this present time.
Together we pray...
Loving God, you sent us your Son, Jesus, to show us the way to you.
We pray that we find peaceful solutions to the problems of our nations
by living the Gospel and following the words and deeds of Jesus.
May his words of peace and hope fill our hearts and minds
so that we can live in harmony together.
We ask this prayer through Jesus Christ, your Son.
Amen
Free Whānau Workshop!
The caregiver session, Understanding Your Brain: Building Resilience and Maximising Learning, will take place on Thursday 4th May at Kuranui College at 6 pm. For more information please see the flyer below.
Spotlight on Attendance
This term, children who have over 90% attendance will go into the draw to win one of three awesome prizes! We also have a special draw for students who improve on their term 1 attendance.
Why do they need to go every day?
Going to school every day really is the key to getting the best out of school because:
- it sets up good habits for going to school right from day one
- learning to read, write and do maths takes a lot of practice and is easier to master if your child goes to school regularly
- each day is a chance to learn something new
- school offers your child regular, dedicated help to master the many skills they need
- it teaches your child life skills like commitment, being reliable, having a good work ethic and sticking with things when they get hard.
The Holiday Hub Club!
I am pleased to announce that we will run the Holiday Hub Club again from Monday 3rd July to Thursday 13th July. The booking form will go out later this term.
Don't forget that we also offer after-school care every day until 6 pm. For more information please contact the school office.
Māori & Pasifika Performing Arts Academy
During the school holidays, our senior students Zaan, Max and James G attended the Wairarapa Schools Māori & Pasifika Performing Arts Academy. It was led by TAPA Academy tutors Shari Taylor-Kawana, Kiri Riwai-Couch, Michael Kawana Jnr and Maioha Riwai-Couch with support from Hinetai Karaitiana and Maia Karaitiana.
Over the three days students learnt waiata from Aotearoa, Samoa and the Cook Islands and learnt a new choreographed routine that they performed to whānau and guests in a full Mākoura College hall.
The organisers said our students were phenomenal; the determination, tenacity and physical and mental strength required to keep going over the three days was incredible and they should be very proud of themselves. They were great ambassadors for our school too!
