January News
Northwest Montana Educational Cooperative
Wrapping Up 2017
I have been working with Marisa Franklin at OPI and truly appreciate her enthusiasm, as well as her expertise. She worked with our Math Curriculum Review Committee at the end of November. She introduced the committee to the SBAC Interim Assessments. Everyone agreed that these offer a great value. Some of the points they found valuable:
- You already have access to them (free).
- The Interim IAB assessments are divided into the domains.
- IAB assessments have 13-15 questions.
- Students log into the secure browser just like the SBAC (get comfortable beforehand).
- Teachers can have students try out the different accommodations. This could help some of our Sped teachers with planning.
- Can take any grade level test (below or above their grade level).
- Teachers get results, unlike the practice questions.
- The results provide vasts amount of data including the 5 questions that students did the best on and the 5 questions that were most troublesome.
- Performance tasks are available, as well as information for the teacher about hand scoring. (A deeper understanding of how these items are graded on the SBAC)
- Teachers can discuss the format of the questions and help with the online tools.
I truly appreciate the hard work of our Curriculum Review Committee members (science, ELA & math). We will be reviewing science material samples on December 13th.
