NWEA Testing Begins this Week!

Students in grades 9 and 10 will take the NWEA Map Test this week. They will test in Math, English, and Science. The purpose of these test are to determine student academic growth over the course of the school year and the data helps us identify gaps in student learning.

Important Reminder - Dress Code

Please keep in mind the dress code at WHS. If the student’s attire does not meet the requirements, he/she shall be referred to administration. If a student is in violation of the dress code they will be asked to modify his/her attire or be excluded for the day if a change of attire is not possible. As a frame of reference, the following are standards that shall be in operation:

  1. Shoes or sandals must be worn at all times.
  2. Inappropriate language/signs/symbols/sexual implications worn on clothing shall be prohibited. This shall include, but not be limited to any message which expresses profane or obscene language or which makes derogatory comments regarding any race, creed, religion or national origin, and any material that encourages illegal substances use/abuse, including tobacco and alcohol.
  3. Bare midriffs, halter-tops, tube tops, and tank tops are not acceptable. All shirts and blouses MUST cover the waist and be able to be tucked in. No mesh shirts, tank/muscle shirts. Sleeveless shirts must cover the back. Spaghetti straps are permitted only if worn under a sweater. Undergarments are not to be shown.
  4. No short shorts, cutoffs, or sagging pants. All pants must be pulled up so that no underwear is showing…no sagging.

Westwood High School Needs a Robotics Coach!!

A coach is needed for the high school FIRST robotics team. Coach Elliot is retiring but will be willing to be a mentor to the new coach. We have a successful program and have consistently performed well at competitions, which are exciting, energetic, and a ton of fun!

UM/MSU College Event

If your 11th or 12th grader has any interest in attending MSU or U of M, you/they should try to attend this event in Marquette on September 21st. You can use this link or the QR code on the flyer to register.

Booster Club Fundraiser

The Athletic Boosters are selling slides as a fundraiser to support our athletic programs. The athletic programs at WHS depend heavily on the boosters for support. Below is a flyer with more information on their current fundraiser. Thanks.

Attention Class of 2023

As an 11th grader and a leader in our district, please consider applying for our Big Brothers Big Sisters - Youth Power program. This program allows you to be partnered with and mentor a 5th grade student for the entire 2021-22 school year.

Meetings are every Friday during 1st hour


If you are interested, you must fill out an application and have a parent/guardian fill out a reference form. Both can be found in the links below, or you can grab one from my office. Please forms must be submitted to the office by September 30th. If you have questions please stop and see Mrs. Halamka in the counseling office.
