First Grade Owls
August 31th - September 4th
PYP Unit of Inquiry
On Friday I sent home a Permission Slip for our field trip scheduled for September 9th. This is a hybrid walking/bus field trip. We will walk to the Art Museum and get picked up at Phelps Grove Park. We need several volunteers for this trip because we need people to walk with our large group (both 1st grade classes will participate) and we will need someone to drive our lunches there. By walking to the Art Museum we will be able to incorporate several aspects about different Multiple Intelligences as well as save money that it would cost to have the bus drive us and wait on us all day!
I must have the district permission form which is the second page. You can keep the top portion of the first page, but return the bottom portion with lunch and chaperone info along with the district form by Friday September 4th!
Reading
Please continue to read with your child each night. It is amazing what you can accomplish in just 15-20 minutes a night! This is one of the most important things you can do for your child (of all ages). Check out the chart below for why this is so important! Fill out and return the reading log each week and I will send a new one home on Mondays.
Follow the path below in the Math section to find Lexia, an online reading program the district is using to increase reading skills!
Math/Canvas
We will continue with addition this week. If you are looking for some math to do with your child don't forget they can log onto Canvas at home. They should know how to get to Dreambox from there but in case they don't- it is a little confusing at first!
http://www.springfieldpublicschoolsmo.org >> go to Canvas on the right side of the page
>> log in with their student id (lunch number) and their password is student
>>at the top of their page go to Courses and Groups drop-down menu
>>select Virtual Library >>then Online Locker >> from there you will see buttons for Dreambox, My Math, and other resources. These are meant for home use as well as school use! Dreambox is a math program and Lexia is a reading program.
There are also games and other information in My Math, as well as an ebook so you can see exactly what the student sees in class!
