Volume 3, Issue 8 - October 4, 2019
We want to take the time to one more time remind you of the expectations for athletic events.
Game day/event rules for CPS middle and high school athletic events:
- No re-entry
- Students PreK-8 MUST have a parent/guardian present at the athletic event - this includes football, basketball, volleyball, cross country, track.
- Students cannot bring backpacks, fanny packs or bags into the venue. Student-athletes or students participating in the event are allowed to carry their items/necessary equipment in a bag/backpack into the venue. Adults are allowed to carry bags/backpacks into the venue.
This means any Gentry student who attends an athletic event, who is not on that specific athletic team, MUST have a parent or guardian who comes with them and stays the entire time. This is obviously a change from previous expectations.
Thank you for your understanding!
Student Flu Vaccine Clinic
- If you decline, or do not return the required permission form to the school, the free flu vaccine will NOT be given to your student at school.
- If you returned the consent form at the beginning of the school year, and your child receives the flu vaccine elsewhere, it is important that you notify our school nurse immediately to avoid an unnecessary second dose.
- If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact our school nurse, Sara Korman, RN at 214-3246 or skorman@cpsk12.org

Jaguar Rumble- Friday, October 18
Three years ago, the 8th grade volleyball team wanted to do something to help several of the football players mothers who were suffering from cancer. In two weeks time, they had organized a charity volleyball game between all of the fall sports teams and had raised over $1000! They called this event the “Jaguar Rumble” after the students’ favorite cheer and it’s becoming a tradition to end the fall sports seasons this way.
We hope that you will join us at the 3rd Annual Jaguar Rumble on Friday, October 18 from 2:45-4:00 pm. The volleyball, football, cross country teams, and cheerleaders will play each other in three volleyball matches. Admission to see this crazy fun is $5. We also will be printing a limited amount of Jaguar Rumble t-shirts that will be available for purchase starting October 14th for $10. Buying one of these shirts (and wearing it on game day) will get you into the game for free! New this year, students may purchase an “Honor Ribbon” to honor someone they know who has suffered from this terrible disease. These honor ribbons are $1 and will be on display the week of the game.
8th grade athletes who wish to participate will receive information from their coaches on Monday, October 7. We appreciate their participation which allows this event to happen!
Please note that students will need to arrange for their own transportation home at the conclusion of this event. Go Jaguars!
OTIS Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough Fundraiser Orders
Our OTIS Spunkmeyer cookie dough orders will be arriving here at Gentry on October 23. Please plan on picking up your cookie dough orders promptly between 3:00-5:00 pm on that day. Unfortunately, we will not be able to store cookie dough orders due to the high volume of orders needing refrigeration. Orders can be picked up outside of the concession stand located by the gym. Thanks so much for your support!
Media Center Minute
Please have your student check their iPad to be sure that their Notability App is backing up to their Google Drive. Notability is an App that many students use daily for classwork. Notability only saves to the iPad, so if the iPad is stolen, lost or broken, they will not have access to those assignments. Directions are attached on how to do this.
Toronto Canada and Niagara Falls Trip
If your student is interested in traveling to Toronto Canada and Niagara Falls, now is the time to enroll! Our very own Mrs. Manning (Science teacher) will be chaperoning this trip and the enrollment deadline is fast approaching (Friday, October 18th). Enroll your student by October 6th for an additional $85 discount. Adventure awaits you! If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Manning at mmanning@cpsk12.org.
We've Got Spirit! How 'bout You?
If your 7th/8th grade student is interested trying out for our winter sports Cheer Squad, now is the time to make sure that all of their MSHSAA paperwork (posted on our website) is completed and on file in the main office prior to tryouts. Students will not be permitted to tryout without all of this completed paperwork. Our cheer squad tryouts will be held on October 15th and 17th in the upstairs commons. Students must attend BOTH days of clinics/tryouts in order to be considered for a spot on the GMS team.
7th/8th Grade Girls and Boys Basketball Tryouts
Girls and boys basketball tryouts will begin in mid-October. Be sure that your child has turned in all of their MSHSAA paperwork to the main office PRIOR to tryouts. This paperwork can be found on our website or a paper copy can be obtained in our main office. Coaches will not be permitted to allow any student to begin the tryout process until all of this paperwork has been completed and is on file in the main office.
