Peasant Life
By Devlyn Cornell
Family Line
If your mother was a peasant, you automatically become a peasant(unless you like is like a Shakespeare play and a lord falls in love with you) and have to serve the people your parents work for. The life expectancy was much shorter at that time, around late 20's, and sometimes shorter because of all the labor. If a peasant had a big family, usually all they were able to eat was porridge everyday. The wives of peasants had a difficult life too, they had to wake up early to prepare food for the family and had to take care of all the chores while the husband was working. Sometimes the women were expected to help the husband with the labor
Work and payment
The peasants worked everyday and just about all day until it was night doing many services to the lords or monarchs that they worked for. They were either payed with food or very little money and never had a chance at getting out of poverty. Their most valuable possessions they could normally afford we're farming and craftwork tools but some of them couldn't even afford those and had to make them. Their jobs mainly consisted of labor work, gardening and taking care or wealthy people land. They also were responsible for taking care of the farm animals and killing them for food when they were asked. Once they were payed the already small amount, they had to pay a tax.
Their work had difficult hours and sometimes they had to start working as early as 3am.
