2nd Grade News
September 14-18
Mrs. Knudson
Ms. Pettit
Ms. Rodenberger
2nd Grade Daily Schedule
In-Person Learners
Classrooms
In order to maintain as much space between learners as possible, we will be utilizing all three of the second-grade classrooms for in-person learning. The square footage of each room differs significantly. Due to this your child may or may not be in their "teacher of record's physical classroom" but will see their "teacher of record" every day. Teachers will rotate to each classroom, students will remain in the same classroom.
Ms. Pettit's room will be the blended classroom (a combination of in-person and online learners). Students will be spaced 5 1/2 feet apart. In Ms. Rodenberger's classroom, students will be spaced 5 1/2 feet apart. Students in Mrs. Knudson's classroom will be spaced 5 1/2 feet apart.
As always we appreciate your support and understanding. As the school year progresses there will be changes to accommodate the number of students that will be learning in-person.
Headphones
Please send a set of headphones that your child can leave at school.
Charge iPads Nightly
Please help your child get into the routine of charging their iPad each night. Your child will need their device charged to full capacity each day.
Snacks
Snacks will be allowed in the classroom. Snacks must be peanut-free. Good choices are applesauce pouches, pretzels, or crackers. Please refrain from sending anything sticky/juicy/messy.
Water Bottles
Please send your child with a large, full water bottle each day. Water fountains will not be available to drink from or refill bottles. Water bottle refilling stations will be available for your child to refill their water bottles as needed. Please label your child's water bottles with their first and last name and 2nd grade. Lost/misplaced water bottles without names will be thrown away at the end of the day.
Lunches
Please be sure that your child can easily open the items that you send for lunch so that your child can maximize the amount of time he/she has to eat and minimizes the amount of contact teachers will have with food items.
Recess
We have two short recess breaks that follow the necessary guidelines. In addition to the scheduled recesses, we will have wiggle breaks in the classroom and opportunities to get some fresh air while stretching our legs.
Restroom & Hand Washing
We will be taking frequent restroom and hand washing breaks. In addition to the sinks in the restrooms, each classroom has a working sink, soap, and paper towels. We gladly welcome any foaming hand soap and paper towel donations.
Extra Mask
Please put an extra mask inside a plastic baggie labeled with your child's name in your child's backpack.
Remote Learners
In-Person Drills
We have drills scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Friday of this week for students that are in-person. We do not know the times of these drills, but they may cause disruption to our WebEx sessions as we are required to practice these drills with in-person learners. We will communicate with our online learners so they know what drill we are practicing and when we will be back on the WebEx.
Synchronous Whole-Class Learning
Students will log in to Ms. Pettit's WebEx room for Announcements and Circle up at 7:40 and Math at 8:00 am, Mrs. Knudson's WebEx room for Humanities at 9:40 am, and Ms. Rodenberger's WebEx room at 12:25 pm for Fundations/Science.
Optional Synchronous Whole-Class Learning
Students should log in to Mrs. Knudson's WebEx room at 10:40 for Read Aloud and Ms. Pettit's WebEx room at 1:10 for Tiger Time.
Check SeeSaw Nightly
Please look over your child's SeeSaw work each evening. We rely on this platform as evidence of the progress your child is making in their school work and learning. There are times that we comment on student work and return it so the student can make corrections and send it back to us. Please remind your child that it is his/her responsibility to make changes (the goal is improvement, not perfection) before sending the work back.
We will email you if your child is missing work and/or not making corrections on their assignments.
Daily Checklist
We have had a few people inquire about providing a daily checklist to help keep your child on track. This will be especially important as our schedule was again modified. We have created a morning and afternoon checklist.
You will need to print out five copies of each for each day of the week.

Moving Forward
News for WebEx
- We will begin WebEx lessons within five minutes of start times.
- The district has directed staff to lock WebEx sessions 10 minutes after each session begins.
- The WebEx "chat" feature will be on briefly at the beginning of each session so children can say hello. We will disable the chat before the lesson begins to help limit distraction.
- Please have a work station set up for your child. We have a few students that continue to move about trying to "get comfortable". We have learned that a chair with a table/desk and some type of stand for their iPad works best.
- Your child needs to have their supplies handy each day. If your child goes to childcare, a friend or relative's house, etc. to do their learning please have them take their supplies with them. We are designing our lessons around the supplies in the Second Grade Toolkit that your child received during our drive through meet the teacher. It is very hard for children to follow along when they do not have access to their supplies.
- Please have your child finish their meals/snacks before our sessions begin.
- This past week we tried to record our WebEx sessions but realized the children and their names were visible which violates their privacy and confidentiality. We have corrected this problem and will be posting the Daily Slide Show (which contains our schedule, link to the morning show, circle up question, videos of lessons, and directions on how to complete assignments) in Seesaw, in the announcement section, by 3:00 pm each day. If you have not yet joined Seesaw please use this link https://app.seesaw.me/s/377-903-859 and do so as soon as possible.
