Weekly Highlights!
NWEA MAP TESTING
Gathering the most up-to-date information includes administering the Spring Measures of Academic Performance (MAP) Test to all of our students in grades 2 through 7. The MAP test measures several key areas in math and reading, helps determine each child’s support needs for next year’s instruction, and is used to identify students that may benefit from additional enrichment or intervention support.
The NWEA MAP ASSESSMENT must be completed in person. Always virtual students should be dropped off at the main office, Door # 1 promptly at 8:00 am the day of their testing session. Please contact the main office immediately if your child is an always virtual student and transportation is needed for the assessment. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time.
If you have any questions about your school’s MAP schedule, please contact Marilynn Smith, Principal at smithm3@ccsd15.net or 847-963-7505.

Registration for the 21-22 school year is now open for existing students!
Online student registration for the 2021-22 school year is now open. If you have not already started this process for your student(s), please visit our registration page to start this process.
Registration is the first step in getting ready for the up-coming school year. After you register your child online you need to:
Pay student fees. Our student fee webpage outlines the District’s student fee structure and the three ways fees can be paid.
If you have a student that is starting Kindergarten, entering fourth grade, or entering 7th grade, you are required to prove residency in District 15. Our residency webpage outlines the documents you will need to provide to prove residency. All D15 schools’ front offices will be open until 7pm on June 8 and 10 for anyone needing assistance to register their child online or prove residency.
All three steps of the enrollment process must be completed prior to the start of the school year. Families that do not register and, when required, prove residency will not receive information about their school’s school open house event, teacher assignment, class schedule, or bus route until registration is complete.

Class Sectioning for the 21-22 School Year
During the next several weeks the staff at Winston Campus Elementary will begin the process of student assignments for the 2021 - 2022 school year.
Our school sectioning process is a team effort that is completed with great care. Many professional hours of planning and preparation are spent ensuring the most appropriate class placements for each child. Winston has an extensive process for placing students that ensures each class includes a balanced grouping of students that creates an atmosphere where all students can learn. All of our teachers and specialists take an active part in this process to consider all essential factors of education including the learning and social needs of each child.
We always welcome your input including feedback on your child’s ideal learning environment. If you wish to share something about your child's learning style or personality that would serve us in this placement process, you may write a letter to me expressing your thoughts. Requests for specific teachers will not be honored. These letters should be addressed to my attention and can be e-mailed directly to me (smithm3@ccsd15.net) or sent through the US Mail before Friday, April 23rd.
Administration has the final decision on classroom placement, so please refrain from making recommendations to staff members. You can contact me if you would like to discuss your child’s individual learning styles and needs and your input will be taken into consideration.
We are asking that you trust our staff and the process that we utilize to place your students—all of our decisions will be made with the best interest of all of the children at Winston.
You will receive your child's classroom placement through the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus in August. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Student Certification Cards
Students should bring their self certification card or a note from their parents that is signed stating they certify that their child is symptom free and has not been told by a contact tracer that they need to quarantine every day.
Any student that forgets to bring their lanyard to school will receive a minor, unless they have a written note from their parent acting as their certification card.
Any student that has NEVER received a self certification card and lanyard, should contact the main office for one. Any other student that needs one that has lost theirs will need to bring in $1 (in an envelope with their name on it) for a new one.
Thank you for all of your at home support in keeping our students healthy!
COVID-19 Quick Reminders
Please keep your child home from school and contact our main office (847-963-7500) if a student exhibits a Covid-19 symptom, has a fever, or has been in close contact with any person that has tested positive for COVID-19.
All staff and students at Winston Campus Elementary are expected to follow proper face covering protocols, social distance, and practice frequent hand washing. We will continue to follow the recommendations of the CDC and snacks will not be permitted in the classrooms, equipment will not be used at recess, and classroom materials will not be shared.
Although some other D15 schools are using equipment at recess time, Winston Campus Elementary will continue to NOT use equipment at recess. Through some trialing, thoughtful discussion, and careful consideration, we are more successful supporting social distancing when equipment is not used.
Please remind our students of the importance to follow the safety procedures we have in place to support a safe and healthy learning environment. Student safety and minimizing close contacts remains one of our top priorities.
Please contact Marilynn Smith, Principal or Michael Coleman, Assistant Principal if you have any COVID-19 questions or concerns.
Reminder: Fully Power Down Chromebooks Each Night
Please be sure to power down your chromebooks completely each night and not just close them. The chromebooks do not auto-update from home if they have not been fully powered down. This is especially important to avoid technology issues.
