Attendance Information
Hi Compass Families,
We're noticing that many of our students have missed several days of school or have been late to school on a regular basis. We are concerned about the negative implications that come from poor school attendance. We will use this space in the coming weeks to share some information about the importance of school attendance.
Also, please the article below about increasing literacy rates through regular school attendance.
If you are experiencing difficulty getting your child to school on time each day, please reach out to your child's teachers for support. We're here to help you.
This week's attendance quote:
"Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence."
Staff Outing Raffle This Week!
The 2nd Annual Winter Fling is coming up a week from tomorrow!! We would like to announce a fun, kids-only, component of the event happening next week, leading up to the adults-only Fling on Friday!!
The Compass Teacher and Staff Outings Raffle will begin on Monday, February 6th! Our Compass teachers and staff members have graciously offered to create special outings with them to be raffled off as prizes to students. Every student will get 2 FREE raffle tickets. Additional tickets will be available for sale for $5 each or 5 tickets for $20.
Raffle tickets will be available for purchase every day next week: At lunch time and dismissal on Monday, and then 7:45-8:15am and 3:45-4:15pm Tuesday-Friday. Kids can buy tickets and choose raffles to enter at these times in the hallway at Compass. The more tickets you buy, the better your chances to win! The drawings will be held the week after the Fling.
Here are just a few of the outings kids will be able to choose from:
* Take a trip to the New York Hall of Science in Queens with Drew!
* Bake bread, and make butter and jam, with Rasha and Madeleine!
* Have a painting party with Suzanne!
* Go for a pedal boat ride in Prospect Park with Stephanie and Julian!
* Enjoy ice cream sundaes at Ample Hills with the Co-Directors!
There are so many more fun offerings your child will enjoy choosing from! This was a very exciting event for the kids last year, and we know it will be this year too!
Money raised will benefit YOUR CHILD! The Winter Fling and raffle raises money for the FSC, our version of a PTA. The FSC pays for our incredible partnerships with Mark Morris, the New Victory Theater, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. We also provide funds for after-school scholarships, Compass community events, and additional supplies to support art, music, and science at Compass!
