HAVE YOU TRIED SCHOOLOGY DISCUSSION BOARDS?
Basic Discussion
2. Click on "Add Discussion"
3. Title and create the assignment
4. Instruct your students on the requirements of their posts
Discussion Between Multiple Sections
Discussion Between Classes of Other Teachers
1. After you have created your discussion, click on it.
2. At the top you will see "Share ID" followed by a number. Copy that number and send it to the teacher so s/he can share it with his/her students. You have the opportunity to create a password, but it is not necessary.
3. The "receiving teacher" should click on the "All Materials" pulldown (toward the right), and choose "Discussions."
4. The "receiving teacher" should then click on "Options" and choose "Join Shared Discussions." This will open a box for the Discussion ID. No password is needed unless the originating teacher created one.
5. This discussion will now show as an option for your students, and they can join it as they would any discussion.
A few tips and limitations to this system:
- You can not mark a shared discussion as "graded" - so if you're not seeing the share option, check to make sure that grading is not enabled for this discussion
- You must set up the sharing arrangement at the creation of the Discussion assignment - You cannot share discussions after the fact.
- Shared discussions are not available across linked sections. (For example, if you have already linked your Periods 3 and 4 classes on Schoology, this system does not work.)
- To share with a different teacher, your discussion already has to be shared with at least one additional course that you teach. (So if you only wanted to engage the class across the hall, and not another section of your own, you could just share the discussion with one of your other classes but then do not assign them the discussion.) The Share ID does not appear unless the discussion is already shared with another course you administer.
