Tuesday Times
Havelock North Primary School - 1st November 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
Welcome to November everyone. A big welcome to our new students Jaxson, Wolf, Ace and Reef. Well done on making such a positive start to school life at HNPS.
Mufti Day - This Friday
A big thank ypu to everyone who was able to support the Supper Club Mufti Day last Friday. $710.80 was raised to help local families in need which is fantastic. Please let the school know if you are aware of anyone in our local community who may need a little bit of respite.
Solar update
Many of you will be aware, but I'd just like to give an update on the solar panel project and it's positive impact on the school finances.
Due to the amazing generosity of the Streeter Family and Isaac's Plumbing, Pumping and Electrical our school power budget is roughly half of what it was meaning we have saved close to $15,000 per year on power. This means there are many students who are benefitting in many ways as a result of this initiative which is brilliant.
Caleb Robinson & Bayleys
A huge thank you to Caleb Robinson and the Bayley's team for their recent $2000 donation to the school. Caleb came to the school assembly last Friday to present two $1000 cheques which is amazing. Thank you so much!
Peak Trail Blazer and Blast in the Park
A big thank you to the organising teams of these amazing events. We were lucky enough to have Steve Gregory and Catherine Wedd attend Friday's assembly to promote these events. Please get in behind and lend your support as I know volunteer numbers are a bit light at present. The good old saying, "many hands make light work," certainly holds true in this case.
These events raise significant funds for our school. An example of this is the upcoming installation of the large turf which we hope will take place in December. The Dell playground project is also on the cards for next year. Exciting times ahead!
Community Consultation
Later this week a survey will come out asking our community some questions about the school and ideas for continuing to improve what we offer. The Board would value your feedback to help inform strategic planning.
Quote of the week
"Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." — Winston S. Churchill
Have a great week everyone.

HNI Dance Festival
Dance Festival 2022
Four dance groups (fifty children) took part in the Primary Dance Festival on Monday at HNI, which was a fabulous celebration of dance. The Year 4 girls - Survivors, were coached by Brooke Speers (a previous HNP student and dancer) and gained Highly Commended. These girls showed great commitment to this special Year 4 dance programme. The Year 6 girls - Mufasa, won first place with a highly energetic, dazzling, flamboyant performance. The boys team- The Chemical Brothers, coached by Melanie Shennan, were competitive, highly original, and the only boys team competing this year. The Year 5 girls - The Angels, brought an angelic, galactic dimension to the event, and looked fabulous in their white and red costumes. Huge thanks to all the parents who helped their children stay committed to dance this year, and who helped with transport and face painting.
Thank you so much to coaches Shelley Washington, Melanie Shennan, Brooke Speers for their tireless work and all the amazing people who supported us with costumes. Much appreciated!

Peak Trail Blazer
We are just over two weeks away from the Peak Trail Blazer on the 20th November and the organising committee is in full swing.
It’s been great to see the Peak Trail Blazer T-shirts being worn around school. We have a few extra t-shirts in certain sizes, so if your child missed out and would like a t-shirt, please get in touch.
We are looking for volunteers who can help marshal on the morning of the event, 20th November, or help with registration on November 19th from 12 - 2 pm. We would really appreciate the support so if anyone can lend a hand, we would be very grateful.
Entries have been going strong and we aren’t too far away from selling out the Tainui Trail, so please make sure you get your entries in so you don’t miss out.
If you can help, please contact Catherine Wedd on 0212886770 or peaktrailblazer@hnps.school.nz
Kind Regards,
