O. Henry's At-Home Library Newsletter: May 18th, 2020

Need to return library books? READ THIS!

We have been given clearance to have students pick up their personal items from the locker rooms. We are also asking for students to return athletic uniforms, library books, and school calculators. We will also have a table of items from our lost and found for pick up.


WHEN: Wednesday, May 20th 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. OR Friday, May 22nd 10:00-11:30 a.m.

Where: Gym Parking Lot off of Exposition


Student and Staff safety will continue to be our top priority. All students and parents will have to wear masks and maintain a minimum of 6 feet physical distancing approaching our drop off and pick up station as well as retrieving items from their PE locker. Please know that all items not picked up will remain secure in our building until school starts and can be collected at a later date.

summer reading: 5 Book Dive

Check out one or more of our 5 Book Dive suggested reading lists put together by your district librarians that are posted on the 5bookdive.org website. We have six lists to choose from: K-2 (English), K-2 (Spanish), 3-5 (English), 3-5 (Spanish), 6-8, and 9-12. Many of these titles, plus thousands more, are available as ebooks in MackinVia, Sora, and the Austin Public Library. Just remember, it doesn't matter if you read a magazine, a newspaper, a comic book, or a story book -- ALL types of reading counts! So take this summer to find something fun and interesting to enjoy!

What is ms. cross currently reading?

This week I've been reading A Curse So Dark and Lonely, which is also a 2020 Lone Star book. In this twisted modern retelling of the fairytale, Beauty and the Beast, Harper finds herself kidnapped from the modern world into Emberfall, where Prince Rhen is trying to break a curse that causes him to repeat the fall of his 18th year over and over before he turns into a villainous monster that destroys his kingdom. In order to break the curse, a girl must fall in love with him. Will he break the curse? Is Harper finally the one? Find out in this action-packed twisted tale. If you like fantasy and adventure, check it out!

Austin Public Library Summer Reading News

Austin ISD has partnered with Austin Public Library so that all students are eligible to sign-up for an Austin Public Library card each year during the school registration process. If students have their APL card, they can use it to access online books, resources, programming and more! Due to COVID-19, Austin Public Library is adapting to the times and is revamping their youth Summer Reading Program.The new Summer Reading program will be updated and shared on their website very soon, so stay tuned to see how you can participate all summer long!

Access to Teen Book Cloud

Teen BookCloud is an online collection of ebooks, enhanced novels, graphic novels, videos, and audiobooks. Students of any reading level has access to an amazing range of content and best part is that Teen BookCloud allows for multi-users simultaneously! Reminder: prequel to Hunger Games comes out this week!

The much anticipated prequel to the Hunger Games series is coming out May 19th! Pre-order your personal copy by shopping local at Book People. I know I'll be reading it while stuck in quarantine. I will also be purchasing a few ebook copies in Sora as it becomes available. Happy reading!
