DEVELOPING A GROWTH MINDSET: QUOTE OF THE MONTH
~ Kid President
Mrs. Matney is Flipping out!
: An Explanation of Flipped Classroom/Instruction
I am at the beginning phase of designing and implementing the Flipped method for my instruction. This is my rough draft.
Students with Chromebooks
- receive their instruction for homework. I will post a video of me teaching an art lesson, a PowerPoint explaining a concept or a link to explore. This provides more time for students to create in class
- Watch lessons they missed because they were absent
- Rewatch a lesson to clarify
- Move onto another lesson if he/she is ahead
- Choose alternate lessons when it is an option
- Receive individual instruction from teacher during class
Students without Chromebooks can use a classroom device to
- Watch lessons they missed because they were absent
- Move onto the next step if he/she is ahead
- Receive instruction from Mrs. Matney even if there are several different learning activities taking place (centers/stations)
- Receive individual instruction from teacher during class
It is my goal for my students to get the most out their 45 minute art class. It is vital that my instruction meets the needs of every student. I must provide a variety of learning activities. I want the majority of Art class time spent on creating, not waiting. Flipping my instruction allows me to reach all of these goals. I am very excited to take on this challenge.
Below, I have attached some photos of a stand my husband built for me so I can record my instruction. There are also videos that can help you understand this concept. Each flipped classroom is going to be different.
Lessons
Some groups are starting something new while others are wrapping up their sutdy of the Jaipur Elephant Festival: Cultural Art
- Jaipur is a city in the country of India
- India is in the continent of Asia
- There are 7 continents. To help us remember we start with the 2 Americas. Then we focus on the 4 that starts with an "A." That leaves us with Europe
- We compare where we live on the map. Our city, country and continent
- How does our location impact our culture
- The festival falls on the last full moon of winter
- Asian elephants are different than African elephants Click here to see differences
