Resource for Families: Colorín colorado

When parents have questions about raising multilingual and multi-literate children, one resource I like to refer to is the Colorín colorado web site. While this site is Spanish/English bilingual, it offers fantastic, research-based ideas for encouraging children to read, write, speak, and listen in multiple languages. Today I am including a link to their "Help Your Child Learn to Read" page. At the bottom of the page (also included below), you may want to watch the four minute video on little things parents can do to help their child see the connections between letters, words, and sentences, an important early reading skill in any language! One fact found in the video: The human voice is capable of producing over 150 speech sounds (phonemes), and the English language uses just 40 of these sounds!

Happy Ram Navami!

To all those students and families who will be observing the celebration of Ram Navami on Wednesday, April 21, we wish you a happy and prosperous Ram Navami! We wish you and your family positivity, peace, and harmony.

Also, please feel free to collect and share photos of family celebrations, dinners, or decorations of your observances of holidays. We have a global community here at Lake Bluff, and students love sharing their traditions and learning about those of others.
