Travel agents sell transportation, lodging, and admission to entertainment activities to individuals and groups who are planning trips. Travel agents also offer advice on destinations, and making travel arrangements for clients.

An advantage of this job is that you know you helped someone. You are in the position of authority to guide clients with their travel needs. Another advantage is that you get to know all about the world and all the cool and interesting places there are. Benefits to being a travel agent also include access to vacation deals, ability to get discounted airfare, and travel on assignment. There is some travel invovled with being a travel agent. If your company specializes in a certain area, then you sometimes get to go there. There are usually no dangers invovled with being a travel agent.
Education Needed for this Job
A high school diploma or equivalent is usually required for this job. Good communication and computer skills are essential for travel agents. Some aspiring travel agents choose to get a bachelor's degree in travel and tourism. Also, some employers look for job candidates who have taken college courses in computer science, foreign languages, geography and world history.
