Great Things Going On In Third Grade
It was so great to see all of our wonderful parents at the Valentine's Day class parties! The student Valentine's Day boxes were amazing and they had a wonderful time exchanging valentines. A huge THANK YOU goes out to all of our wonderful volunteers for making the parties a smashing success!
This Saturday is our first annual PTO sponsored 'Breakfast with Benny'! It is the hottest breakfast ticket in town! Please join us, and Benny the Bear at Applebee's Restaurant for a wonderful all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet! Please see information below and the attached ticket order form. It is a fantastic way to have a wonderful breakfast and support our school! We look forward to seeing you there!
We are so proud of all the third graders who have been 'Reading to Succeed'! Students should continue to read, and fill out their 'Six Flags Read to Succeed Log' to earn a free Six Flags ticket. This is the last month for students to complete their reading. Please see more details below.
In Math this week, we will continue our study of geometry. Students will learn to sort and classify three dimensional shapes according to their attributes. We will continue to focus on learning basic geometric vocabulary. Students will also learn about the concepts of rotation, translation and reflection. We are attaching a geometry powerpoint that includes all terms and concepts that the students will be studying. It is a great reference guide to help your student be successful in our unit or study.
In Reading, students will continue to learn about author's purpose, focusing on persuasion. Students will also learn about identifying fact and opinions in texts. In Writing, students will identify facts and opinions from their research to write a persuasive paper on who should replace Andrew Jackson on the twenty dollar bill.
In Science, students will complete their Light and Sound ELM. They will work within their ELM groups to create a Google Doc presentation.
There will be no school, Monday, February 15th, in honor of Presidents' Day.

Six Flags Read to Succeed Due February 29th
We are so excited to participate in the Six Flags® Read to Succeed Six Hour Reading Club!
This exciting program encourages students in grades K through 6 to read for fun. Read to Succeed is a free program sponsored by Six Flags Theme Parks. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading before the school’s deadline noted below is eligible for a free admission ticket valid at one participating Six Flags Theme Park. Students will develop a greater appreciation for books when they see that you think reading is important too. You are sure to have fun as you investigate the world of reading together!
Here’s what you need to know:
-Only students in grades K through 6 are eligible to participate.
-Review the attached reading log. Your child should use this sheet to record what and
how long he/she reads.
-Your child must complete 6 hours, or 360 minutes, of recreational reading.
-Please initial each entry and then sign the reading log to verify that the 6 hours of
reading has been completed.
-Your child can read books, magazines, newspapers, or comic books (digital or hard
copy). Reading for homework or a class assignment does NOT count.
-Students can read silently, aloud, or with an adult—you can read to your child, or your
child can read to you.
-Remind your child to return the reading log to his/her teacher by the date on the log.
-Your child’s school will submit your child’s information and minutes read.
-Late entries will NOT be accepted.
Each child that completes the Read to Succeed Program will receive a ticket to Six Flags. All Read to Succeed forms are due to your child's teacher by February 29th, 2016. Please see attached parent letter and reading log for more information.
