Liberty Early Childhood Center
October 2019
Dear Families
Happy fall everyone!
Things continue to move forward at the ECC. We are seeing growth in children throughout the building, and we hope that you continue to see growth at home as well.
Please make sure you have signed up for a time to meet with your child's teachers during parent/teacher conferences. This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions and learn more about your child's strengths as well as learn about how you might extend learning at home.
As we enter this beautiful time of year with the weather beginning to cool off, please make sure to send appropriate clothing with your child. Classrooms will continue to go outside as often as possible. Labeling jackets, hats, etc with your child's name helps us ensure that it leaves with the correct person each day.
Best regards,
Dr. Sarah Birk, Principal
Mr. Bart Tittle, Assistant Principal

School Hours:
In an effort to limit disruptions to classroom instruction and make the most of our learning time together, we ask that you please follow our hours of attendance if you are transporting your child.
Morning session times:
9:30-12:30
Afternoon session times:
1:20-4:20
Reminders about the bus:
- Children are NOT allowed to eat on the bus. Please be sure your child has time to eat their breakfast or lunch before you expect the bus to arrive.
- Any changes in bus transportation will require a minimum of 3 days to process. Remember, a change in your transportation address may impact your child's ability to have bus service. Since we serve the entire Liberty school district-addresses are routed either as an AM or PM attendance area.
- Make sure someone is available to meet the bus at pick-up and drop-off times. An adult must be present for the child to be released off the bus. Please see your parent handbook for additional information.
If your child will be absent from school:
Regular attendance is important to help your child make the most of this learning year in preschool. We understand children will miss occasionally due to illness or family emergency. When this happens, please call our attendance number and either speak directly to an ECC staff member or leave a message.
To report an absence, please call 736-5324

New Playground Surface
Each year the ECC hosts the 'Trike-A-Thon' fundraiser to help support projects in and around our building. This summer we were able to add a brand new surface to to one of our play structures. This surface looks identical to wood chips but is made of rubbery, bouncy and more durable material that enhances accessibility for children.
This addition could not have been completed without all of your generous support.
Thank you.
Safety and Security
Each month, our staff and students participate in a variety of emergency drills. These include fire, tornado, earthquake, and lockdown. Drills provide our staff and students an opportunity to practice what to do in the event of an emergency.
Safety and security of our students and staff is a priority for our Early Childhood building as well as the Liberty School District. LPS security provides regular and routine patrols of all schools in the district. As the ECC is a Liberty Public School located in Kansas City, the LPS Security Staff and KC PD often partner to provide patrols or follow up on reports. Our staff is trained and encouraged to keep sharp eyes on our grounds. District protocol dictates that we report anything out of the ordinary to LPS security.
