November Reminders
- Continue to work with ELL/ESD students and their teachers
- Seek opportunities to create inclusive, collaborative learning supports in Tier 1
- Make sure a hard copy of a student AIP is included in the yellow file
- Make sure a schedule of service is included in the yellow file (no last names)
- Update digital AIPs as needed
- Log consultation and service in ELLMS
Next Step....Thinking about Reporting
In November start formatively assessing your students as you work on their AIP goals. Observing and jotting down a few insights on how they are doing on ELLMS will help with the creation of reports later on.

Interpretation and Translation
They can help us with some translation (written documents) and interpretation (spoken communication at meetings/ by phone). Translation takes a good deal of time and should be reserved for items of key importance or safety concern.
For languages other than Mandarin and Arabic, our SWIS workers Iryna Lacroix and Hosam Abou Ali, can assist with finding an interpreter through CVIMS. Iryna and Hosam have sd68 email addresses and can be found in our directory.
Interpreters cost $50 an hour, including travel time and are not covered by CVIMS. There are times when this service is absolutely necessary with issues of confidentiality and safety.
Translation of documents in other languages is very costly.
Don't be afraid to try out a bit of Google Translate. Most of our Immigrant families appreciate the effort. It is not always reliable, but there can be learning in the attempt.
