Roadrunner Reading Goals
Every grade level will be participating in the Roadrunner Reading Program this year. Because there is a direct correlation between reading and student achievement we have organized a school wide reading program that we hope will inspire children to read. Please reference your child's grade level for the desired amount of required reading per week:
Kindergarten - at least 50 minutes a week
1st grade - 75 minutes a week
2nd - 100 minutes a week
3rd grade - Weekly reading passage and literature response
4th and 5th grade - Weekly reading passage and literature response
Depending on your child's grade level, students' reading experiences may look different. Parents may read aloud to students, some students may opt to listen to an audio book while others choose to read aloud to an adult or read silently. All are acceptable! If your student reaches his/her monthly reading goal his/her classroom teacher will reward those students in various ways. If your child reaches his/her reading goals, he/she will celebrate their achievement by visiting a local establishment (last year students visited Gymnastics Michiana) for a field trip of fun! Please work with your child to ensure his/her name will be on the list to go in May!
