Inspirational Quote
"Pray, hope, and don't worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer."
~St. Pio of Pietrelcino, O.F.M. Cap. (1887–1968) — known as Padre Pio — was a friar, priest, stigmatist, and mystic, now venerated as a saint. Padre Pio became famous for allegedly exhibiting stigmata for most of his life. He was both beatified (1999) and canonized (2002) by Pope John Paul II.

March Book of the Month “Showcase of Writers”
This month we read The True Story of the the Three Little Pigs, by Jon Scieszka. The story is told from the wolf’s point of view, so our writing this month was all about point of view of the writer and reader. We discussed how every story has two sides, and some important pieces about voice in writing. The Kindergarten and First Grade reacted to the Book of the Month by making reaction videos to The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. These videos focused on their opinion of which character’s side of the story was correct. The older students were given a choice to write a fractured fairy tale based on the villains side of the story or a persuasive piece based on a strong opinion.

My life as a younger sister
Chapter 1
My sister does not do anything!!!!!!! She just sits around all day listening to music on her phone. My sister and I have chores. I of course do all of mine, but she never does hers. It’s makes me so mad!!!!!!! I told her she needed to do her chores but she would not listen to me. Which made me want to smack her. I didn’t though. I did scream at her. I said “ YOU NEED TO DO YOUR CHORES RIGHT NOW!!!!!!” She did not listen to me. My sister and I never really get along that well. As you can see. One time when we were younger I had a barbie doll, but then she stole it from me. Which made me mad. So my sister and I ran around the house until she hit her foot on our table and fell and broke her arm. I said “ That is what you get!!!!!!”
Chapter 2
One day I was eating dinner, then I realized that my sister was not there!! I went outside and yelled her name. CHRISTY!!!!!! CHRISTY!!!! I got so worried I actually started to cry. I ran inside and told my mom. My mom was so scared she started crying too. “ Well” she said “I guess I’m going to have to call the police.” In a really quavery voice. I told her everything was going to be all right, but she did not believe me. So my mom and I walked outside, when we heard a voice call out. It sounded like my sister.
She was yelling “Help me!!!” She sounded like she was pretty far away. So my mom and I ran through the woods. We ran so far we couldn’t even see our tall silo. We were still running through the woods when it was dark. My mom and I just gave up.
When we got home, my mom called the cops. They came to our house and started looking through the woods to find my sister.
Chapter 3
The cops came back to our house at around midnight. They did not have my sister with them, though. My mom and I gave up again, so we just went to bed. When I was in bed I had a great idea. I thought that I could sneak out the house and look for my sister myself since the cops were not even that helpful. I forgot that we have a creek in the woods and I thought she might be there. I ran all the way there, but did not find her. Then at about one o’clock, I heard somebody crying. I got my flashlight out, then started to look around, when I saw a little cabin. I walked in and found my sister in the corner crying. I asked her what was wrong. She said “ I droped my phone in the creek and that’s why I am crying.” I asked her why she went into this cabin and not home. She said “ I am embarrassed to tell her this, but I am afraid of the dark. My phone has a flashlight on it.” I asked her why she was at the creek. She said “Because I was hungry and I wanted some fish. I came out here to get it because we ran out of fish. So I got a whole bag full of fish for our family.” I told my sister I had a flashlight, so we walked home.
Chapter 4
The next morning, my mom woke up with tears in her eyes. She told me she walked into my sister's room and found her laying in her bed. They were not sad tears they were happy tears.
When my sister woke up, our family had breakfast. Then we went to the park and had a celebration of my sister coming back. When we got back home, my sister and I had chores. My mom told her she needed to them and she actually did. It was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The True Story of Cinderella
People always say that the stepsisters in Cinderella are awful witches. Well, they got it all wrong. Cinderella was one who made us sound awful. Here is what really happened. But first, I am the one who will be telling you the story, the true story, I am Drizella.
Anyway, Once upon a time Cinderella’s father married our mother and we became stepsisters. Her father died and she was with us. She was very messy so she had to clean up after herself she did not have to do our laundry and clean our room because they were already clean. She did not have to look after the farm animals because we did not like her it was because they were hers.
I would like to make this very clear WE WERE NOT AND NEVER HAVE BEEN JEALOUS OF HER. She was the ugly one we were the pretty ones. She was jealous of us.
Either way let's skip ahead in the story to when the message for the ball came shall we. So the invitation for the ball came in the mail during our music time and I was singing ever so beautifully when cinderella came barging in ruining my perfect solo. She said,” I have a message from the castle.” Mother picked it up and read it and then said,” There will be a ball at the palace and the prince will be choosing his wife there.” We were all excited about the ball for I knew that he would choose me for I was the most beautiful there and all.
Well, Cinderella was allowed to go if she did all her chores and had a suitable dress. And then she STOLE my pearls and shash to make her dress. They were the ones I was going to use. So I ripped
all my stuff off of her.
And then why we were on our way to the ball she made up she fairy godmother and stole my dress.
So we are at the ball and the prince fell for me, but when she showed up he just left me. Do not know what he what he was thinking. But blah blah blah blah blah later she runs home loses her shoe and then cries to her mice.
Then, the next day one of the advisors came to our door and got all of us to try on the shoe then right before my foot was about to go in Cinderella comes bursting down stairs to try on the shoe then somehow it fits they go on to get married and we are in the dust.
So there you have it the true story. So we are not is bad as you thought are we. Well at least now you know who the real bad guy is don’t you.

Catholic Schools or Public Schools?
- Are Catholic Schools better than Public Schools? Is that even a question! I’ve experienced both Public and Catholic Schools and Catholic Schools are better, no doubt about it! I think Catholic Schools are better than Public Schools because you get a better education, it’s a great chance and opportunity for you to succeed in athletics, and you can express your faith and feelings with God. There is no place I’d rather be than here at St. Paul!
- I believe Catholic schools are better than Public Schools because students get a better education. Here at St. Paul, the work is more challenging and stats show it. I have taken a great step forward from being at a Public School two years ago, to now being at a Catholic School. I get straight A’s in school, I participated in Governor’s Cup and finished 1st in District for Composition and 3rd in Districts for Mathematics. Here at St. Paul there is more opportunities to excel in academics. The staff pushes you to be the best you can be! This is the first reason why I think Catholic Schools are better than Public Schools.
- I also believe that Catholic Schools are better than Public Schools because it’s a great chance and opportunity for you to succeed in the future in athletics. Here at Saint Paul, I have come a long way with athletics, especially in basketball! Not only myself, but even my classmates have succeeded in athletics as well. My class alone has won seven City Championships and came in Runner-Ups as well. We have been Runner-Ups in basketball four times, the girls softball have won the City Championship the past three years, and both boys and girls basketball teams have won the City Championship 3 times in the past two years. As you can tell, Saint Paul is a great chance for you to succeed and be ready for High School in the future. I have really taken a big step forward in athletics! This is another reason why Catholic Schools are better than Public Schools.
- The last reason why I believe Catholic Schools are better than Public Schools because you can express your feelings and emotions with God. At Public Schools you are not able to speak about your religion. This is one major reason why I like Catholic Schools better than Public Schools. Here at Saint Paul there is no restriction from you speaking to God. They want you to build the best and strongest connection with God as possible. I’ve been so close to God ever since I moved schools. I would pick Catholic Schools over Public Schools any day because of this. I will never let Jesus out of my dreams for anything! I’ve learned so much about God’s teachings as well. This is the last reason why Catholic Schools are better than Public Schools.
- What do you think? This is why I believe Catholic Schools are better than Public Schools because you get a better education, it’s a great chance for you to succeed in athletics, and you can express your feelings and faith with God. There’s no place like Saint Paul! I’m not saying you need to come to Saint Paul, but I highly suggest you attending Catholic Schools over Public Schools. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Twisted Fairy Tale: The Little Mermaid
My story begins many years before the princess Ariel was around. Back when I was free to swim in the oceans and was adored by others. I was a friendly creature, the one others turned to in their times of need. My talents were seen as gifts and were sought out by my fellow sea creatures. I had many friends, one of them being the prince Triton. We had known each other since we were young and have had a strong friendship. A few months before Triton was going to claim the throne he fell in love with a beautiful, if not vain in my opinion, mermaid named Athena. Of course I was happy for my friend. I attended his crowning and soon after attended their wedding. And for a time after our lives continued as normal. But soon the queen had fallen ill after the birth of their youngest daughter. She was the 7th. But Triton, knowing of my powers, came to me for help. After examining the Queen, sadly there was nothing I could do. She had an illness I had never seen before. But the king was distraught and kept trying to push me to find a cure. I told him there was nothing I could do but he insisted. This lead us to begin a heated argument. But in an act of desperation he took out his triton and intended to strike me. In response, I unleashed my own power onto his. This caused an explosion which blasted us both back. When the smoke cleared we saw the queen had been caught in the crossfire and had been killed. Triton blamed me and sought out to destroy me. He told the others in the kingdom that my power was evil and that I should not be trusted. I was banished to live with those lowest in the sea. I was mocked, hated and most of all feared. Now, does that sound like a loving father and ruler to you or just a poor unfortunate soul.

Learning About Presentations - Communication Skills
As a part of our 21st Century Skills Curriculum, third-grade students are fulfilling one of the key standards, learning how to make and deliver presentations. They are using their Google Apps account to do this. Last week they learned how to create and build a new slideshow. They added slides, text and images.
This week they started a project called, "My Saint Presentation". Bringing their research to the CLC, they used a template to create a presentation about the saint they had chosen. They learned to open a template and edit it to fit their particular saint. They filled the text boxes with information about the saint and inserted a picture of the saint on slide 2. On slides 3 & 4 they chose interesting facts to include in the textboxes. When they were finished filling the boxes they chose a slideshow theme to create special interest to the topic.
After spring break, they will be learning to present their findings and their slideshow to the class. We'll have more to share after spring break. Lots of good learning here.
