Don't Miss the 2017 MOAHPERD State Convention - A Great Opportunity to GROW!
Wow! The weather has been extremely hot to start the new school year, but the hottest time of the school year is going to be November. The 2017 MOAHPERD State Convention will have a schedule packed with HPE superstars. As the Association President, one of my responsibilities has been to coordinate the scheduling of sessions for the annual state convention. I have dug deep into my vault of creativity and fought hard for the funds to bring in premier presenters for all areas of our profession. Click the link below to view the schedule which is live on Sched.
My goal is to have 800 HPE Professionals attend this year's convention. This goal might seem lofty, being that we had just over 600 attend last year, but not too long ago our convention attracted over 1,000 people. It is time to GROW our numbers back to where they had once been. Our Association will only be as strong as the number of Missouri HPE professionals we have as members and convention attendees. It is most important during these times that we must join together to: advocate with state legislators for stronger wellness programs, including health and physical education, in our schools; activate appropriate instructional practices in health and physical education classes; educate our parents and community about the valuable outcomes of quality health and physical education programs; and motivate youth to live healthy, active lives.
Most importantly, make an investment in yourself. Being back in the school and teaching physical education again after 13 years as a Curriculum Coordinator, has quickly reminded me of the very little time teachers have for their professional growth. Finding time to meet with colleagues, read professional journals or even browse on the Internet for new ideas, is very difficult with the course load that we have. Coaching also adds more workload to the daily schedule and makes it even harder to find time for professional growth. Do yourself a favor and take 1-2 days in November to GROW your wisdom and re-connect with your profession.
Please plan to join me at the 2017 MOAHPERD State Convention on November 10-12, 2017, at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake Ozark. You will not want to miss this year's lineup of presenters and opportunities to network with your HPE colleagues. I also have a special Improv show following the banquet and fun Sunday sessions, so plan to stick around Saturday night.
