What is going on?
Reading: We will use context clues to help us determine the relevant meaning of unknown words. Specifically, we will learn how similar (synonyms) and opposite (antonyms) words can be helpful in finding that unknown meaning.
Writing: Students will learn procedural writing. They will sequence instructions, use transition words, and write with clear details.
Spelling and Grammar:
Spelling words this week:blue, early, goes, long, play, stop, this, while
In grammar we will once again focus on apostrophes; this time in contractions.
Science: We will explore the water cycle and discover how precipitation, condensation and evaporation play a role in our weather.
Math: In math we will continue our fraction unit for one last week. Kids will learn about equivalent fractions, equal shares, and names of parts including eighths, fourths, and halves. We will use concrete models to count fractional units beyond one whole and identify examples and non-examples of fractional parts. Friday we will take our Fractions Assessment.
We have a fun week planned for how-to writing in a couple weeks and I was hoping you would be willing to help me with some supplies for the lessons. If so, please email me and I will confirm with you so that we don't have an over abundance! Once again, thank you for your generosity!

Our secondary RRISD Student Advisory Board this year actually is calling out for care and concern surrounding the mental wellness of their peers. Conversations around suicide and stress were the predominant themes. As a result, they have decided to take on as their community service project, the RRISD Campus Walk for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). It will be held on Saturday, April 21 at Cedar Ridge High School. Check in and activities will be taking place from 9-10am, the walk will begin at 10am, and we hope to have some options of presentations immediately following.
