Davenport's Weekly Update
Week of January 17th, 2021
Message from the Principal
Dear Davenport Staff & Students,
We had a great week back with the students! It was a JOY to have the students back in the building again. From our talks at lunch about exciting games, to hearing students shuffling down the halls, and interacting with each other in the class warmed our hearts.
We are looking for more GREAT days ahead as we continue Hybrid in-person instruction. Please be advised that the window for virtual to hybrid in-person has closed on January 15th. If you submitted for a change in schedule, from virtual to hybrid instruction, you will be receiving information in the near future. This will include the students group and bus pass information.
Be reminded of the following:
HYBRID- In-Person PARENT ANNOUNCEMENTS/REMINDERS:

We Got The Beat!
For this week's music lesson, Mrs. Heininger's 1st grade students learned how to identify and tap a steady beat! Davenport Primary's music teacher, Miss Cottrell, asked students to use two pencils, pens, or markers as rhythm sticks as they tapped out a steady beat to "Hello Song".
Davenport Alumni Returns As Special Guest Decades Later!
Mrs. Doyle’s 3rd grade class enjoyed a very different kind of lesson which incorporated Lego’s, and learning about the Lego Masters’ Competition. They discussed how it takes patience and dedication to build something, and were then asked to share what they felt they were really good at and might want to compete in someday. The students were then treated to a very special finale to their lesson when Mr. Mel Brown, a true Lego Master, and former Clayton J. Davenport student joined their class. Mr. Brown talked about how he and his building partner made it onto the Lego Masters’ television show beating out 55,000 other contestants. He also spoke about how he always loved to build with Lego’s, but as he got older and became a police officer that interest got pushed to the side. Then four years ago he began “building” again, this time with his grandson. Mr. Brown was an excellent guest sharing his creations and experiences working with Lego Masters, and answering lots of questions!
