Congratulations to Our Recent Superstars!

Meet Nashua Staff!

Nashua has incredible teachers who work tirelessly to help our students get smarter, feel cared for, and grow in so many ways! We also have many staff members who have a variety of roles in our school, all of whom care deeply for our Stars. Enjoy learning about new staff members within each newsletter!

Ms. Lindsey Doolitte

Ms. Doolittle is beginning her 14th year in North Kansas City Schools and is enjoying her 11th year at Nashua. She is passionate about art and encourages her students to explore, grow and to think for themselves. Her beautiful cat, Walter, despises the fact she will be going back to school, but loves hearing classroom stories when her mama returns home from work. In her off time, she enjoys writing and creates art too.

Mrs. Rebekah Fowler

Mrs. Fowler is beginning her 22nd year of teaching with most of those years being at Nashua. One of her teaching goals is to lay a strong foundation of a love of learning that will help set the tone for their school careers. Mrs. Fowler was a student at Nashua (a while back) and her own kids have been students here as well. She and her husband have 5 boys: Jehr, Brock, Hank, Kade, and Mack.

Seen Around Nashua

Portrait of a Graduate

North Kansas City Schools will continue to implement our Portrait of a Graduate initiative this year. This program is designed to teach students different life skills that they can use to be successful.

Portrait of a Graduate Competencies: March=Problem Solving

This month’s skill focuses on problem solving. Students will be able to persevere to better understand their own challenges, recognize a problem and come up with multiple solutions, and reflect on their past success and failures to solve a new problem. Nashua will encourage problem solving by teaching classroom lessons, recognizing when a problem arises and verbalizing possible solutions, and setting weekly action steps. Problem solving can be supported at home by talking about possible solutions as problems arise.

Map Testing Schedule

Please see the image below for this year's MAP schedule. It is important that students are present and on time these days. Please avoid scheduling appointments or trips during these days to allow your child to test on the same schedule as their peers.

Student Arrival- Important!

There is no student supervision before 9am on regular school mornings, and before 9:45am on Late Start Thursday mornings. Please do not drop your child off by car in front of the building. If your child will arrive at school by car, please follow our drop-off procedure for car riders. If your child is a walker, please ensure that the time they leave home does not have them arriving at school before our doors open. This is critical for student safety, to ensure that they are not waiting unsupervised, and is also important when the weather becomes colder so that students aren’t waiting outside for extended periods of time.

REPEATED ITEMS

Café Announcements: Al a Carte (Repeated)

Al a carte (snacks) is now open for all grade levels to purchase at lunch. Some students REALLY enjoy purchasing snacks. If they have money on their lunch account, they are able to purchase snacks without limit (to an extent). That being said, if you would like to limit or block these purchases there are 2 ways to do so. 1) Email Jodi the café manager at Jodi.kane@nkcschools.org or 2) Fill out the form provided and return to Jodi so she may note your students account. For example to limit your students account, have your student pick a day(s) that they are allowed snacks, and/or how many if you like. You can choose to limit it to only a certain amount (1,2,3) per day. Also keep in mind Ms. Jodi will allow students to purchase the day before or after if their day falls on a holiday or snow day unless directed otherwise. If you are sending money to school with your student please make sure they take it to the café before the start of lunch. Any money turned in during lunch will be added to their account for the next day. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jodi at 816-321-5164.

If you would like to restrict your student from purchasing "doubles" (a second meal) please inform Ms. Jodi via phone, email or indicate that on the snack form.

Perfect Attendance (Repeated)

We are so excited to see our Stars each and every day, which is why we are excited to reward students with perfect attendance! Perfect attendance means being in class every second of every day with no tardy slips issued. Each month, perfect attendance stars will receive some type of small reward, such as a sticker, pencil, extra recess time, or dance party. We understand if there are occasions during which your student will not be able to attend school due to illness. Students will be able to enjoy rewards each month for the remainder of the year, should they maintain perfect attendance for each of the other months. We are beginning this incentive in September, with attendance being tracked for this purpose beginning tomorrow (September 1). Our first reward will be an extra 15 minutes of recess on October 3rd. Medical notes, late arrivals and early sign outs, while sometimes necessary, will disqualify students from perfect attendance.

Reminders about Car Rider Drop-off (Repeated)

  • Please ensure that your students are prepared to get out of the vehicle before you pull up to stop (ready to get out with backpacks, water bottles, etc.)
  • If your child is reluctant to exit the vehicle, or if they are unprepared to exit the vehicle for any reason, please pull forward and to the left side while you resolve the issue, so that the line can continue to progress
  • For safety reasons, students should exit the car on the passenger side.
  • To avoid your child receiving a tardy and impacting their attendance, please attempt to complete drop-off before 9:12

Picking Students Up Late (Repeated)

If your child did not get picked up on time from the car rider line and they are waiting in the office, please pull into the bus loop, park your car, and come inside to sign your child out in the office. Thank you!

Car Rider Line Procedure (Repeated)

To ensure safety and fair, quick car rider procedures during arrival and dismissal, we ask that all families adhere to the car rider procedure on the map below.

Car riders will access their line from the westbound lane of 114th street by way of McGee street. The NKC buses will access the bus loop by driving eastbound on 114th street.

In addition, if you are lining up early for dismissal, we ask that you not block driveways and mailboxes along 114th street or McGee street.

Thank you so much for your cooperation, as this helps for a smoother dismissal for everyone.
